Hey y’all we are sailing the Valor out of Nola in a week and had a few questions
1. How difficult was it to
Smuggle booze on board and how did you conceal it? Or did you get busted?
2. Are straws on board or do
I need to bring them
3. Suggestions on excursions?
4. Any additional things you want yo share so our vaca will be incredible!

Thanks so much

Cruise flasks

Like drinking straws? I'm guessing you can find a straw on a cruise ship.

I would imagine they will have straws, but they may be the paper kind (in lieu of plastic) which tend to suck.

Regarding sneaking booze on, I would imagine Carnival has an unlimited beverage package you could purchase - not sure of pricing, but it is something to consider on the front end and may be worth it.

Regarding excursions, what port of calls are you going to?

If they find that you have snuck alcohol on board, it will get confiscated. Doing so will put a target on your back for the remainder of the trip. One more slip up and they’ll kick you off at the next port.

They will X Ray all luggage and search your luggage if they think it’s in there. They have the right to break a lock on your luggage.

If you buy alcohol in the onboard shops or in port, you will not be able to take it to your cabin. You’ll go pick it up at a designated spot at the end of the cruise.

You can bring one bottle of wine on board and have it corked for you in the MDR or a specialty restaurant.

Cruise ships will only let you access beer and hard liquor via their bars.

They will confiscate plastic straws if they find out you have them.

It is possible to sneak booze on board but the consequences of getting caught are not worth it.

Check out Resorts For a Day for Cozumel. Trips to Tulum are pretty cool. Lots of people like to go to Mr. Sanchos for the day.

Progressive we did a Mayan ruins tour and a cave tubing excursion. Was fun but a lot of time in the bus. Cozumel we like to go to Chankanaab. They have a tequila and avocado tasting which is fun. We also went scuba diving off the beach. Go to the little shacks on the west side and ask around for Early. He’ll take you right off the beach to see some cool things and will take you thru a legit cave which was unexpected. The dive is like $50-70 for about 45 minutes. It’s worth it if you’re not certified which I’m not. It’s only 25-30’ of water but still a lot of fun. Then you can swim off the rocks or just lay on the beach.

We’ve always gotten the drink package which was well worth it.

Use the cruise flasks, you will be fine. Also the drink package ($50/day) is very much worth it if you drink 4 drinks a day it pays for itself.

You are also allowed a bottle of wine each. Had a buddy with a wine corker and he filled a dark wine bottle with booze to smuggle on.

EXTREMELY easy. Rum Runners-Amazon

I brought two of these filled to the brim. I would suggest folding them in your clothes. (read that it helps and I make it through no issue)

The only issue with the Carnival Drink Packages is that they only offer 15 drinks/day. I saw someone called it an 'unlimited' which is not the case. I hit my 15 every single day before dinner. It's not difficult to do when you're stuck on a boat all day.

You are allowed one bottle of wine as well, so I would suggest bringing that.

We went to Playa Maya? I think? Maybe it was Mr. Sanchos...I don't remember....It was some beach package with drinks. Wasn't bad but seemed like a waste of money to me.

4. Any additional things

Make sure to tip the people you interact with the most. They will hook you up. A few times they 'forgot' to ring my drink up as alcohol. Rather just rung it up as a soft drink, giving me an extra drink on my total for the day.

We used these and put one in each bag, it worked great. On a side note, it sucks having them because every time you want a drink you have to walk back to your room.

I brought a 32oz yeti cup with me. So running back to the room to make a few stiff drinks was a better option than not drinking

eta-I am not judging. If I was sitting on a boat all day I would get black out drunk also.

Agree - it's not technically "unlimited" but I've never exceeded the max drinks per day. It was worth it for me the times that I purchased the package.

We just got back from the Valor in August. Great time!

1. Like everyone mentioned, drink package is well worth it. Most drinks are $8-$12 a piece so it pays for itself quickly depending on the type of drinker you are

2. They have straws that are made of candy. Kinda a pain but I drink really fast so it was never an issues. Just gets slimy and unappetizing.

3. We went to costa maya instead of progreso but in Cozumel we did an ATV ride through the jungle. It was fun! But definitely do a snorkeling excursion in Cozumel and go see the ruins in progreso

4. Go to all the shows. Those people put in a lot of effort behind the scenes so go support them. They are typically excellent. Hope y’all enjoy!

Don’t be trashy, get the drink package

Amazon sells some reusable straws that work well

Went a couple years ago. I’d do an excursion not through carnival. They have independent ones. Me and my wife did a jeep tour to a private resort, tequila tour, and free dinner. Lasted about 4 hours and it was $100.

Also, for us the ruins are very underwhelming. A lot of time on a bus to go see some ruins. Not our cup of tea.

In Cozumel we got off the boat and went to the beach. Guy offered us beach chairs, food, and drinks for cheap. Got $15 30 minute massage on the beach too

It also sucks because you don't get to enjoy some of the fun drinks by the pool, etc. (Yes, I like my Dirty Bananas and Miami Vice). But if you are fine drinking the same thing all the time, don't ever want a beer, and want very limited mixers, smuggling is ok. If you just want to drink and get wasted, it works. I guess you could buy the soda package for your mixers.

The drink package is $120 per day per couple with 10% off if you buy ahead. Also, make sure you add a case of water to your cruise personalizer and it will be waiting in your room when you arrive.

This...I never do excursions through the cruise lines. If you take a bit of time to read reviews, etc., you can do better excursions for the same or less money with a lot less people.

If you want to go to a beach club in Cozumel, just take a taxi and buy the package ahead directly from Mr. Sanchos. You don't need the cruise lines to do this. Same for Chankanaab Park. Just take a take and go on your own. Save money, don't be stuck with a group on a big bus.

One of my favorite parts of a cruise is staying on the ship on a port day. The ship is mostly empty and there are tons of activities that are not usually done on sea days. Progresso is a great port to stay on the ship.
