They gotta do it. The New York Yankees should never be outbid and after the season he had, it would be a PR disaster to let him walk. But as a pure financial decision, I'd have little interest in giving a 6'7 280 pound 31 year old outfielder with an injury history the type of deal he wants.
Because it's the Yankees, the earned value of what his presence brings back (tickets, jerseys, tv time etc) somewhat offsets his cost but I really don't expect him to age well into his 30s.
