The Salt Fix by James DiNicolantonio

Anybody read this? If so, any truth to what he is saying?
TLDR - people should eat less sugar / refined carbs / seed oils, then once eating 'real' food, heavily salt it. Eat other salty foods as well. Most people will see best results at 3,000 - 4,000 mg of Sodium a day. If you're sensitive to salt then don't do this and listen to your doctor, but for normal people the low salt diet recommended is actually bad for you.
Thoughts?

yes lots of truth to this. most peoples issues with salt is do to the flux in salt intake and using shitty table salt and not him pink salt or sea salt.

My nutrition plan has mineral targets on it. I've been supplementing to get there. On my long run days, I've been drinking water and adding LMNT to it: LMNT Website

I think his core revision of history is likely true, namely: just like with cholesterol, saturated fat and fiber, we have been fed a bullshite narrative about salt over the past 50 years that is basically an urban legend with almost zero underlying science actually performed.
My understanding is that, yes, IF one has high blood pressure already, then they need to be a little careful. But NO, salt DOES NOT GIVE ONE high blood pressure.
This is part of why I get so annoyed when "salt, sugar and fat" are lumped together as some kind of triumverate of ill healthy.
Salt - good for you
Sugar - they really only mean "added sugar"
Fat - they don't even know what they mean

Go to the OT and Food Boards on this site. They'll tell you they have high BP from table salt while eating pizza and bon bons every night and drinking a case
Of beer a week. 90% of those narratives is people talking themself into an excuse of why they're a fatass

Thanks everyone! This is the main group of opinions I was looking for

I see ads on some podcasts promoting Liquid IV, but it has a good bit of sugar. I wouldn't mind trying LMNT.

Well, hypertension here. I do have to keep salt low. I wish I didn’t. As soon as I heard this I went all out, my BP was running extremely dangerously high. I got it back down. Last check 133/77. Not too bad for a low salt shrew. ??
Just saying. I think the research is legit. A lot of stuff they told us in the 1950’s is complete trash. Thing is, why are we only just now hearing about it. Lol

I second this stuff. It seriously worked for me. I went from 129/72 - 116/66 averages now. Also, it kinda gives me a cbd feeling the next day, I’m not as worked up about stress.

Your whole post needed to be said again, but especially the bolded.
I haven’t read the book but hear good points about it. I salt to taste, but when you’re eating right, it all just fits into place nicely.
Curious as I’ve heard a tidbit in another book about alcoholics, alcoholics tend to over salt/season their food as their taste senses diminish. I haven’t really researched to see if true. Anyone else heard of this?

Taking a pill is not ‘natural’. Changing your eating habits along with exercise is natural

It’s the same mineral
Sea salt is often promoted as being healthier than table salt. But sea salt and table salt have the same basic nutritional value. Sea salt and table salt contain comparable amounts of sodium by weight.

Did you even read what was in it or you just running your mouth?
And of course diet and exercise should come first but for many it’s not enough and what I just told him is a great protectant.
I don’t give a frick if you are a doctor or not, don’t come in here thinking you know everything. Sit back, read and maybe read and digest some research papers and you may learn a thing or two.

My advice is to take your own advice. I’ve shown you the evidence. I can’t make you understand it.

You posted an article, it’s not a study. Show me a meta analysis showing higher salt intake leads to higher all cause mortality especially when it comes to pink sea salt
And before dismissing carditone, might want to do some research. Ask the guys on here how it has helped them

Why would I take the time? Do your own homework. Again, I can’t make you understand it. Sea salt and table salt is the same mineral. It’s SALT!
