Vivid memories of jamming Gangstas Paradise in 7th grade on the portable CD player. Coolio was huge for a short while back in those days.

More or less a one hit wonder in the song "Gangstas Paradise" released back in the 90s.
Song was universally enjoyed by all genres.
dude had 2 or 3 other top 10 hits, so not really a 1 hit wonder.
i love how everyone is acting like his songs glorified ghetto culture, when it was the opposite. Gangster paradise is about redemption from the streets
now real life...yea quite a few run ins with the law and kind of a piece of shite human...so he fit in hollywood.

Correct.

Incorrect.
Listen to the "It Takes A Thief". Most of the songs were about glorifying ghetto culture. But they were often funny.

Holy shite! For all these years I thought that was Coolio (even though Busta mentions his name in the song). #TIL

Damn.
One of the most vivid memories of my childhood is the day I bought the Gangtsa’s Paradise CD. Me and a few friends rode our bikes to Randy’s M&M, the local movie rental place, which also sold CD’s. Bought the explicit version with my own allowance money. Came home, popped it in my Discman. Fifteen minutes later my mom asked to listen. She had the headphones on for about five seconds before she took the disc out, snapped it in half, and threw it in the trash can. Real a-hole move.
