I don't understand the whole task-based assigning work to people. I am not a kindergarten teacher. My team has had their jobs outlined since day one. I don't micromanage but I expect to see the results. I also like to see ambition and not just doing enough to retain your job.

WFH has created the mindset of just doing enough to get by so you can go pick your kids up from school at 3 even though the work day isn't finished. Or let me get in one quick episode of a TV show during work hours because I am caught up for now.

This isn't some new unique phenomenon. Mike Judge literally discusses this in Office Space

It's a giant law firm. A bunch of work has to be done to research cases. Lots of cold calling, interviews, vetting experts, etc. One department has to get their work done by a deadline so the next department can meet theirs.
