I like AP and AP2 and think it’s become a bit underrated the last decade or so, but this is an insane take

American pie 1 isn’t even the best American Pie movie

No, frick you. All those movies are good but American pie is better.

I’m sorry the dick drawing scene in Superbad is funnier than anything in American Pie. Like the dick as the tank man in Tiananmen Square massacre.

Also the Simon Pegg movies are better. Hot Fuzz and Sean of the dead

Yeah, it clearly can’t compete with these. Hot Fuzz had some kind of joke basically every three seconds. Hot Fuzz is an absolute Gatling gun of jokes. There are jokes set up in the second half of the film that pay off in the first half of the film that you won’t get until you’ve watched it multiple times. Hot Fuzz IMO is the best comedy in the past 25 years.

Wedding Crashers and the Hangover were by far the two movies I remember laughing the most at.

The thing lacking with the Hangover is it is lacking in subtlety. Yes, first time watching some of the hardest I’ve ever laughed in the theater, but it’s pretty much downhill from there. The truly great comedies get funnier every time you watch them, but once you know the twists in the Hangover it’s just not as funny as it was the first time.

American Pie just came out at damn near the perfect time for me, almost the same as Old School. I love them both but I would prefer to watch Old School if I had to choose.

I’m sorry, but no. I’ll say American Pie is better than the Hangover. The Hangover it’s just once you’ve seen it, you’ve seen it. There are no subtle jokes in that film. You will get every single joke in that film the first time you see it. There’s no greater meaning to that film. It does not do well on repeat viewings, since really outside of the outrageous things they find out they did the previous night, there aren’t many zingers in it. Compared to Hot Fuzz, it is just so amateur. Superbad also has all these jokes per second going.

Superbad old school and wedding crashers are all better but without American pie those may not get made.

American pie brought back the r rated comedy as a commercially viable product

My favorite comedy of the 2000's is Grandma's Boy.

Jojo Rabbit and the Death of Stalin were pretty great. Other than that, nope.

AP 2 had a great soundtrack. If you watch it it sets you in 2000.
