Greenwood, MS

We're going to Greenwood, MS the weekend before Thanksgiving so my wife, brother, and dad can go to the Viking Cooking School. Greenville is in the middle of nowhere and, because it's the weekend before Thanksgiving all of the flights are ridiculously expensive.
Thankfully, I have a few Delta 2 for 1 certs that expire in January which takes some of the pressure off, but I'm trying to decide where to fly in/out of. I don't have any experience with these airports and hoping some folks here do.
From what I've seen there are 4 options for getting here, some better than others. Jackson (JAN) would be the easiest but to get anywhere near a decent price we would need to spend the night in Jackson upon arrival and ride up with family on Friday. We could also fly into Birmingham (BHM) and spend Thursday night and ride over with family Friday, we would still fly out of Jackson on Sunday though the flight times are terrible.
The other 2 options are Memphis (MEM) and Columbus (GTR). Both of these would require rental cars.
Honestly I can't figure out any great or even good options. Hopefully someone here has some experience with getting here or which airports to avoid.

The Crystal Grill has a big variety and is decent.
Also, if Birmingham is an option then you could also include Little Rock and Monroe (they are both within 3.5hrs like Birmingham).

Birmingham is only an option because my parents are spending the night there on Thursday as well and we could ride with them on Friday. We would still fly out of Jackson if we did that.
Appreciate the restaurant recommendation. We're staying at the Alluvian which looks close by

I assume you have some family coming from Jackson and some from Bham? Because Jackson isn’t on the way to Greenwood from Bham.
Given potential cancellations and delays, I’d consider Memphis and renting a car.
Stayed at the Alluvian a year or so ago. Went to a couple of blues history stops. And the bridge that Billy Joe McAllister jumped off of.

Not really sure what the question is, but Jackson airport is perfectly fine. You can get in and out quick if that’s what you are worried about. There are plenty of decent hotels/ restaurants in flowood near the airport

Family coming from Atlanta and family coming from Shreveport, so both are covered.
I may just go ahead and rent a car regardless if we fly in/out of the same airport.

I would not want to spend the night in Jackson, so would fly into Bham, hitch a ride with your family, and fly out of Jackson.
If your primary goal is to be at the Alluvian and the cooking school, you won't need a car much. The Alluvian is directly across the street from the Viking store...the hotel spa is actually on the second floor of the Viking building (excellent spa, btw).

Correct, there is no good way to fly into Greenwood area.
The restaurant associated with the Alluvian, Giardina's, is the best eating place in Greenwood. Lusco's was a local landmark, but covid shutdown finished it. The Crystal Grill is more into comfort, Southern style meals, and they are still on a reduced schedule (Thursday-Saturday). My current fav in the area is Nola's in Indianola, unfortunately a 30 minute drive, but well worth it! Chef Chris does a great job there with cajun style cooking.

I don’t know where you are but there is a small airline, Contour Air, that flies into Greenville Ms. I’ve flown it 3 times this year and have two other flights booked. Greenville is 45 minutes from Greenwood and home to the original Does Eat Place which I highly recommend. Luscos in Greenwood is also very good

Thank you, deltafarmer. I stand corrected on Lusco's in Greenwood. I didn't realize they had re-opened with in-house dining on Fridays and Saturdays.

It’s been several years since I’ve eaten there so I thought I posted bad info. Thanks

I'm Austin based, appreciate the info though!

Google flights shows flights from Austin to Greenville connecting in DFW are priced from $350-$450. American to DFW. Contour Air from there to Greenville. Just a thought. Good luck!

I hadn't seen that come up on any of my options. I need to go check my GF filters again

If you type in GLH as the destination you will see it. The plane is a small jet. It flies out of gate 5 in terminal D at DFW. That’s the international terminal and if you fly out of DFW that’s the best terminal to be in for sure

I'd fly into Jackson. It's easy. Stay somewhere in Flowood on Lakeland Drive (not in Jackson proper). Also, I think Jackson now has Southwest again. I love Southwest and it was horrible when Jackson lost it. Thankfully, I no longer live in Jackson and don't have to deal with any of these issues.

The Crystal Grill is on my bucket list. Never got a chance to go there when I lived in Mississippi.

Ended up booking into Jackson thanks to a Delta 2 for 1 promotion. Gonna book the Marriott by the airport

Check out the AC in Ridgeland if you’re a Marriott person.
Great restaurants in the area. Flowood will be mostly chains
