While true, the states with no income taxes have stronger economies and higher wages on average vs states like Louisiana or mississippi etc.

So not only does your income not get taxed, you also typically make significantly more income in places like Tenn, Florida or Texas.

These kinds of quotes always crack me up. Yeah man, you really saved the oasis that is Mississippi from being overrun by using reverse psychology.

Don’t worry, very few people are moving to Mississippi by choice.

I'd rather have an income tax or even more preferably a sales tax than have some arbitrary value placed on my home and then be billed for it.

Outside of a death or inheritance tax I think property taxes are the worst.

A lot of truth there. For a while I was considering retiring in either Orange Beach, Alabama or Pensacola, Florida. I could purchase just about the same properties in each for the same price. In Florida though, the property taxes were about $10,000 higher. So basically, even if I had no income, I would have to pay $10,000 more for the privilege of having a Florida license plate on my car versus an Alabama one.

Siesta Key in Sarasota

I know it well. Started going there in the late sixties. Got to see it before it was developed. Fond memories of hanging out in front the 7/11 waiting for some dude to buy us a 6 pack of 16 ounce Colt 45 and then wait for some other dude to buy us a pint of peppermint schnapps from the Crescent Club. We would then take said beverages to the Point of Rocks where we would take swigs of schnapps and chase it with the malts liquor.

Sarasota is great, but it is getting to be very overbuilt and expensive.

No way Mizzou is that low. Some areas aren't great, but have you ever been through Grambling? That should put LA firmly on the bottom of the list. People that live around BR (the nice parts) are living 1000x better than the people living in those small towns in North LA.

Cons - Texas has some very pretty areas, but 80% is pretty ugly and that is a lot of ugly.

This is true. I've lived around a bunch of Texas. Midland, TX ranks as ugly but man it really is a sportsman paradise for those who like all kinds and types of hunting. One can hunt doves every day of the season and they fly like it is opening day. And while looking up for doves, look down for quail. And then for fun try and shoot a jack rabbit on the run. And there are deer and where there is a little water there are ducks. So my time in "ugly" Texas was pretty fun.

As far from culture as I can be.

I’ve learned to love Midland and Odessa through family and time living there, but Alabama is where I’ll die.

Another strike against Louisiana. You get both.

Take advantage of the system.

Get a high paying work from home job from a wealthier state and live in the cheapest state in America.

Alabama has it all.

Mountains, lakes, farmland, Mayberry-sequel small towns, and some of the prettiest beaches in America. Great hunting and fishing. It is also a very affordable state in which to reside. Decent sized cities in Bham and Huntsville.
