Looks like Alaska will hand the Democrats a win in November, Republicans battle each other

In the special election, both Palin and Begich lost to former State Rep. Mary Peltola, the Democratic candidate, who captured 41% of the vote in the first round of the new state’s ranked-choice vote system. Palin and Begich gained 31% and 28%, respectively, according to the Alaska Division of Elections.

Palin has argued that, had Begich not run, many of Begich’s votes would have presumably shifted to her, enabling her to win the special election in the first round.

“It is time for the GOP to unite, we need to unite behind my candidacy and starting today with Nick Begich withdrawing from this race,” said Palin at a press conference in Wasilla, Alaska.
quote:
For his part, Begich has refused to drop out, vowing to continue campaigning and that he can win the race.
“Ranked choice voting showed that Palin simply doesn’t have enough support from Alaskans to win an election and her performance in the Special was embarrassing as a former Governor and Vice Presidential candidate,” he said in a statement to the Associated Press.
The most recent poll, conducted by Alaska Survey Research in July, showed Begich beating Peltola in a head-to-head special election matchup by eight points (54% to 46%) while showing Palin losing to her, head-to-head, by five points (53% to 48%).

How Louisiana of them

Maybe Palin should have never ran again, that’s like Bobby Jindal running for Louisiana governor again and complaining when GOP voters don’t vote for him. People are tired of career politicians.

That establishment hack isn't a real Republican and he is only running to prevent Sarah from getting a clear win.
How GOPe of him.
How GOPe of him.

Correct. His candidacy was designed to do exactly what it did.

Rank choice voting, pushed through by Murkowski to help keep her in power, got Peltola the W.
If it was HTH: Palin vs Peltola, Palin gets the W in the special election.
If it was HTH: Palin vs Peltola, Palin gets the W in the special election.

This is why we can't have nice things. Having Alaska blue is fricked. I would like to hear Roger's take.

What do you rely on for that? Because Begich's supporters just told you, via their second choice selections, who they would vote for in a head to head race between Palin and Peltola. And they did not choose Palin.
Why would that change in a H2H race?

It certainly seems at this point though that he has the better shot at winning a head to head then she does. Given that, you can certainly argue she’s playing more of a spoiler than he.

But she’s not an incumbent, she’s a politician that hasn’t held office since 2009. Her funds are running low and she needs a new position to siphon from taxpayers.

Their voting process is so whack

We have a thread on the first page discussing what establishment Republicans we need to get rid of.
In the OP it states...

Even if it comes at the cost of temporarily losing seats
More and more, it is clear the GOP doesn't actually want to be in control.

They have some plan to use governors to retain power.

Begich is a Dem operative doing this for the sole purpose of preventing a Palin win. This is by design.

So this is Palin's fault. Got it.

Just so I understand, the theory is that if Begich were not in the race, that Palin would defeat Peltola head to head. Right?
I do not understand where that is coming from. The majority of the people voting for Begich just selected Peltola over Palin as their second choice in the special election.
Are you saying that those people only chose Peltola over Palin because Begich was in the race? And that if he weren't, they would vote for Palin?

Yes, which no data supports.

That and recent polling show Palin is not likely to win.

That's what they want to believe. Emotions over facts.
