I don’t know anything about the other guy, but with Alaska retarded voting, running more than one Republican just hands the Dems the seat.

The voting system has little to do with the outcome in this race. In fact if supporters of one GOP candidate would put the other GOP candidate as their second choice, the GOP would win the seat easily.

The issue is Begich’s supporters voting for Peltola over Palin, and that effect would be present regardless of whether the election was ranked choice or conventional.

Either Begich or Palin need to either drop out, or specifically encourage their voters to support the other GOP candidate as their second choice.

that and Begich voters who didn't list anybody as the #2 choice.

I think if they all would have had Palin #2, she (as in Palin) would have won as well.

She would have won pretty easily just from first impression of the first round vote/preference totals.

She's had a really good PR team that has absolutely hidden how liberal she really is on everything besides guns

They’re either putting her over Palin or leaving their second choice blank, yea. It is unfortunate.

That along with the fourth place finisher in the primary dropping out.

Is allowing people to make a second choice between the remaining candidates if their first choice loses more or less democratic than allowing members of Congress to be elected with a mere plurality of the vote?

If I'm reading your point correctly it goes like this:

"If my 1st doesn't make it, at least I still have some influence in the second choice".

To me that is the strongest appeal of ranked choice. You aren't necessarily completely shut out. I kind of like the concept and for small groups like corporate board elections or other organizations I can see it being manageable.

But in a national election setting the only way to manage it is with computer systems. And black box computer systems with proprietary algorithms that aren't auditable are not credible.

Right, but we aren’t talking about a national election, and I’m not aware of anyone advocating ranked choice voting for POTUS. If we are splitting hairs, there are no national popular elections in the United States.

The strongest appeal is eliminating plurality elections. No one should be elected to congress with less than 50% of the vote. Ranked choice isn’t perfect because that majority is reached via second/third/fourth choices, but its better than allowing someone to win elections with 39% of the vote. At least with ranked choice the electorate had to choose that person at some level.

If the best she could get was 31% vs his 28%, then she should bow out in embarrassment. If she couldnt pull in 60% of the gop vote, then the alaska gop needs to move on from her.

He was in the race to make sure the Democrat won. He’s a Democrat who infiltrated the GOP. Palin is unelectable and needs to go away.
