My wife and I will be celebrating 20 years next June. We have decided to take our daughters that will be 17, 15, and 13 with us on a trip to sandy, sunny spot for a week. Looking to go out of the country.

I’m just starting to look and for some reason I’m thinking Turks, Bahamas, or Belize.

Are we crazy for wanting to take our girls? What other advice can you provide us in these locations, or others that you’ve visited that I’m not thinking about?

We aren’t scuba divers but would be interested in snorkeling. We want something not super secluded so we can interact with other people, but don’t want a massive resort with thousands of other people. We enjoy hanging out with locals wherever we go.

I’m thinking we should be able to accomplish flying out of DFW and spending a week for between $10k-$15k. Any guidance y’all can provide will be appreciated.

What do yall like to do? Stay in the same spot or move around? Are yall looking to just get on a nice beach and sit there for the week with the occasional activity or do you like doing alot of stuff?

Some people will say yes but I say they’ll be gone soon enough and you should take advantage of these opportunities while you can.

We love San Juan but it may have more of an urban feel than you are looking for. I’d also throw out Hawaii as somewhere they’d talk about forever if y’all have never been.

I think we’d prefer to get somewhere and not leave for the week, but it’s not something I’ve thought about just yet.

Daytime activities would be ideal to keep it from getting boring.

When we go to the mountains, we like hiking, biking, and rafting. At the beach, we typically just relax and hang out on the beach and by the pool. So I guess beach vacations are way more laid back for us.

We rented an Airbnb in Harbour island for our 10th. Didn’t bring kids, but plan to at some point. Also have a few nice small hotels that would probably be in the budget. Rent a golf cart to get around everywhere, awesome pink sand beaches and the water is like a pool because of the reefs offshore. Can book a charter for snorkeling, fishing, sea turtles, swim with pigs, etc.

Can eat at the resorts for fancy meals, or go get conch salad where the locals hang out. Everyone was friendly.

June is the rainy season in Belize and it rains a lot.

Of the three I'd choose T&C even though snorkeling isn't great there. Grace Bay Beach is spectacular and Providenciales has a very good restaurant scene.

If you just want to lay on the beach turks is a great option. The island is more luxurious and modern. They have some amazing beaches there. I stayed in a villa by grace bay beach when I was there. I did rent a car and went visit some of the other beaches on the island. I wanted to check out some of the other islands but didnt get a chance but they have a few that are easy to get to.

If you can operate a boat, go to the Caribbean and do a barefoot charter. If you can’t operate a boat or would rather someone else do it, get a crewed boat. It’s within your price range, will be tons of stuff for you all to do. You are “moving” around a lot but not in a tedious way. Would be a great family trip.

A BVI or St. Vincent and the Grenadines charter with captain and cook would be amazing.

I'd suggest maybe doing 2 different things/areas. For example...Costa Rica. You can split between some really fun and unique mountain activities at La Fortuna or Monteverde and end with relaxing beach time at Playa Hermosa or Manuel Antonio.

Belize - nice beaches (not the absolute most beautiful beaches) great snorkeling, split between either Ambergris Caye or Placencia and San Ignacio where there are really cool jungle activities, like Mayan ruins and a cave with a skeleton (ATM Cave).

Hawaii - I know it's super popular, but I'd pick Maui. You can do the Road to Hana, Molokini crater, a luau (cheesy, but fun) and have relaxing days in a gorgeous resort.

I think for the money you want to spend, I'd go with Hawaii. It wouldn't be an incredible family trip.

Just throwing a suggestion out there but have you considered Greece ? We are going in June 2023 and were able to snag airfare for 700 pp round trip outta Houston. A couple Greek islands for the week would be a blast like Santorini and Naxos or Mykonos.
