Did you jump Grandpaw?
Yeah, a little bit...
Yeah, a little bit...

So what do they do when that happens? That looks terrifying.
C-130J completed Towed Para-trooper emergency (9:07)
Fast forwarded to the point where the jumper is being retrieved into the aircraft by the retrieval system
Notice his static line is misrouted through his equipment on his right side. Absolutely terrifying (never had this happen to me in 73 static line jumps).

I'm not sure I could jump again after that. That guy looks like he's in serious pain.

That looks more terrifying than jumping out of the actual plane.
It is.

Airborne is as big of a hoax as Covid.
They have said this about tanks, A-10s, and a lot of other weapons and tactics that then proved themselves.
It is effective in certain operating conditions, we were effective in Panama. 82nd mass jumps are just one extra skill they possess at the core it is still an effective light infantry division. We jumped into Panama and landed for Desert Storm.
The main reasons for a mass jump are if you don't have both the access and speed you need to deploy by land or sea and you can't land the planes. A landlocked country with difficult terrain, and no or destroyed runways and you need boots on the ground in numbers and in under 24hrs says you want the airborne troops available. As general doctrine it is dead, as a tool in the toolbox it is still needed IMO.

Used correctly (e.g. not like Market Garden or Dien Bien Phu) a forcible entry capability is essential. Whether from the sea (by the Marines) or the air (by the Army).

Towed paratrooper-is that a black mark for the jump master.
A guy I used to work with was a retired paratrooper, told me a funny story. He was jumpmaster, they were getting close to jump zone.Hr told the trooper to get ready,he thought he said to jump and did so several miles from jump zone.Guy landed in a pen full of emu’s which proceeded to attack the guy.Said they pecked the hell out of the poor trainee.

That dude is in some serious pain. I'm curious though why they put a tourniquet on his arm if they didn't even know whether or not he was bleeding?

How much are those Ivory Coast foreign wings worth to you?

For service, not valor. Basically a Meritorious Service Medal while deployed. Thankful for it, but I take it with a grain of salt.
Still, thank you, sir. Much respect.
My Uncle (who was a FO with the 4/42 Field Artillery, 4th ID and attached to and served with several different companies in the 1/12 and 1/22 IB's) was awarded the Bronze Star in 1968 in Vietnam when their FSB was overran. He climbed on top of a bunker and called in arty on top of him while using his personal weapon to kill NVA. Two months later he was awarded the medal of Valor when they were again overrun and he once again called in arty on top...he also saw several wounded GI's and ran out in the (as the citation read) "withering fire" to rescue no less than 6 and bring them to safety in a bunker.
Funny thing, to have talked with him you'd never have known what he did. At his funeral his citation was read - and none of us, except his wife, knew of it. He passed from complications due to Agent Orange.

I remember seeing some Pentagon general on the news when I was a kid. Dude had a chest full of ribbons. I said, Wow, that guy has a lot of medals.
My Dad, with the contempt that only a career private can muster said, He ain't done shite. He doesn't have a CIB.

That has to be part of the Staff making a required jump just to stay on Jump Status. It was a Hollywood Jump. But with that body position the twist in the risers had to be epic.
It’s been a minute but back in the day we would have to go thru a mock door and then execute a PLF for the Jumpmaster before we could draw a chute. Apparently that got skipped with that chalk.

Those LOM were a bitch to get. One for service, one for retirement.
BSM - I ain't gonna talk shite about that.
MSM - 2 x brigade command, 2 x battalion command. Worked my arse off for at least four of those ten.

quote:For the most part, no. Towed jumper is often (but not always) misrouting of a static line or a piece of equipment that has fouled the static line. It is driven home to jumpers to maintain positive control and hand off your static line to the safety as you exit. A myriad of things can go wrong to lead to you becoming towed.
Towed paratrooper-is that a black mark for the jump master.
The reaction of the safety (who was doing a clear to the rear check for towed jumpers) when he saw the paratrooper being towed sent shivers down my spine. I have never had a towed jumper and I am thankful I have never had to deal with that emergency.
