Flying into Atlanta in about a month for Braves/Mets game and gonna drive over to auburn the following day for LSU game. After looking over google maps I’m thinking the Newnan /Peachtree area would serve us pretty well for all the things we’re doing. Is this a decent area or should we look elsewhere?

Great area & exactly where I would recommend staying in your situation. I've stayed there several times.

Peachtree City is a neat area. Very golf cart friendly.

with baseball to the north and football to the south, you can really stay anywhere in town. Not much down in Peachtree City, but maybe that's perfect.

But that's a solid hour drive from the baseball park.

Appreciate it fellas. Will just be me and my 13 yr old stepson. We will prob find something around Truist park when we fly in to kill a few hours instead of driving outta the way to check in the hotel. I just wanted somewhere that wouldn’t be too far out of the way from either venue (Braves or auburn) and would be fairly easy access back to the airport for a flight home that Sunday morning.

At a minimum, unless you get to the Battery around 3 pm or so. Then you have to park and walk, which may be as much as a mile or two depending on where you buy parking. And you likely won't get back to your hotel until well after midnight if you don't leave the Braves game early. It's almost assuredly going to be a sold out game, which means it's gonna take a while to get out of there, not mention the walk back to the car.

There are quite a few places to stay around Truist. It may make sense to get a hotel there Friday night and then another closer to Auburn and check in on the way to the game on Saturday. There's an Omni Hotel right behind the stadium. That way you don't have to worry about the drive and you can hang out in the battery before and/or afterward. There's a Doubletree, Aloft and Hampton Inn on the southwest end of the battery as well.

Grandparents used to live in the Arbor Springs neighborhood. Amazing little town and relatively close to Atlanta.

There's Calloway gardens near LaGrange...locals may call it touristy but it's a great time if you two enjoy bike paths, hiking, or golf.

Agree here in principle, but depending on the kick time for the AU/LSU game it may not be practical. If it is a 3:30 game, you are going to want to be in Auburn early to find parking, walk around, get something to eat and be in your seats by 3:00 (eagle flies 20 minutes before kickoff). Not sure you'd be able to check in that early on Saturday.

I certainly think Newnan would be a good spot for staying for going to AU/LSU. I would pick it over Lagrange or West Point/Valley. Anything really close to Auburn (Auburn or Opelika) is going to be expensive, most have 2 night minimums, and book up fairly far out.

Stayed in Peachtree City in March of 2020 as COVID hit. Line Creek Brewing was cool. Everyone recommended the same place for dinner: Beirut

Golf cart paths everywhere and the deer aren't afraid of anything. I ran every evening and you could just about walk up and pet the deer.

A couple of more thoughts...

If you narrow it down to Newnan or Peachtree City, I would lean Newnan because it is much easier access to 85, with several hotels right off the interstate. Peachtree City is a bit off the interstate.

Food wise, most of Newnan's offerings will be chains. The majority of restaurants are clustered near exit 47 aling Bullsboro Drive or the Newnan Bypass.. If the AU game is under the lights, there is a Taco Mac (wings, sports bar) that has a ton of TV's for catching early games.

Also, Sprayberry's BBQ is pretty good. It is in the little town of Newnan. Get the Lewis Grizzard Special - pulled pork sandwich, Brunswick Stew, and onion rings.

Thanks for the insight and recs. I think we’ve narrowed it down to a Candlewood suites in Newnan or a little lake AirBnB in Sharpsburg. The airBnb was pretty interesting. Was about 100$ cheaper and had a 5 outta 5 rating in 50+ reviews. It also had a self-check in w/ keypad which I like bc I don’t always feel like “being greeted” by a host. How is the Sharpsburg area ?

Thanks again. Didn’t think I’d get many replies on a somewhat obscure inquiry but the travel board delivers agains.

good advice. There are some good hotel options in Newnan right off of the exit. Newnan has the usual BWW and Taco Mac but also has the square downtown. Redneck Gourmet, Rednexican, Karvelas Pizza, Meat n Greet for burgers, Goldens is a meat and three place. Checkout the Cellar too. Dinner is kinda pricey but they have an outdoor bar area that has live music.
