Ascension bans Kratom leaf

Kratom removal will do more harm than good. Now banned, this leaf that can safely be used for pain, headache, anxiety, depression, recreation, insomnia, chemical dependency and fatigue will not be accessible and people will seek out other coping mechanisms, some will go back to heroin, prescription opiates, and people will die. listen to former state representative of Georgia Vernon Jones on his personal use and advocation for kratom YouTube
Our nations representatives have already done their research and denied the DEAs request to ban kratom, and Louisiana has done the same and passed legislation for continued use for its constituents. Tobacco kills more than 500,000 people every year in the US, more than Covid at its peak. And 100,000 deaths related to alcohol, both substances readily available at every corner.
Kratom is a leaf from a tree most similar to coffee, safe and has been used for thousands of years by indigenous people with no detection of causal chronic disease. It is not synthetic, and it doesn’t have the concerning effects of heroin. Kratom does not cause respiratory depression, and there have been no deaths associated with kratom without other opiates involved. In general opiates are safe to use as long as not abused, and do not cause chronic disease like alcohol or tobacco. A large portion of citizens over 60 are daily opiate users. The effects of kratom are minimal, it’s not possible to get inebriated from it, it may be the equivalent of one beer at the most. It’s has great features that discourage abuse, and has a ceiling effect where larger doses don’t increase effects, and when attempted result in nausea or jitteriness, similar to having someone naive smoke too many cigarettes or drinking to much coffee. Kratom is stimulant like coffee, is pro social, and pro work.
I am incredibly compassionate towards the speakers struggling with addiction. One of her major points was that she didn’t feel safe going to the gas station, and having this available encourages relapse. People of all sorts have to resist temptation at the convenience store, the ex smoker, the alcoholic, The gambler, or someone trying to diet.
I’m getting off in the weeds, but I think we live in a dysfunctional world, and we have normalized it. We have had a huge deviation in the way of life from the way we evolved over the last 200,000 years. We used to spend our days with family and community, being raised, and working 75% less than we do now. Now we spend our days divided from our family, and children raised by their peers. It’s caused generational dysfunction. It’s the results of a budding societal revolution. We will solve these problems in the next 100 to 200 years, and become an improved civilization, but for now we need coping skills, and we don’t have them yet, so people will find the most safe coping mechanisms they can. Kratom is not a problem it’s a solution.

Legalize mushrooms. Kratom isn't good for you. It is really bad for some people

I take green vein kratom almost every day. Always in teh mornings and sometimes after lunch as well. I love it.

Define "work." If by work didn't take you away from face to face interaction from your familyas much as it does now, as I assume you mean, then I say that is correct. Otherwise big no lol we don't struggle and work like we used to.

Kratom isn’t any worse than drinking coffee or tea. Crazy they banned it. Thanks big pharma who’s lost tons of money from former opioid users who recovered by using it. Kratom is great and anyone that says they’re addicted anymore than a coffee addict is a pussy wanting attention. Been taking it for a decade and when I stop for a bit it’s the exact same as when I used to quit drinking coffee. I’m more tired than usual for about a week. Tell you one thing I don’t get anxious or jittery like I did with coffee and I have an orthopedic friend who recommends kratom to patients because he’s so against opioids

Makes me sick that the government thinks they know what’s best. How about worry about the infrastructure needs of the parish or schools for that matter. Stay the frick out of my life.

How about stop putting people in financial trouble or a cage for voluntarily consuming a goddamn plant.

Yes, 75% was a bit of an exaggeration. I’m thinking of hunter gatherers, which we still have today. Europeans didn’t start farming till 5000 years ago. Even with farming communities, it was still more similar to hunter gatherers, it’s not the struggle that is different it’s the engagement of community. Back then people defined themselves as so and so‘s son, or member of a certain tribe. They had shame when misrepresenting their community. Now we have radical individualism, and describe ourselves with personal characteristics. People back then didn’t have existentialism, they woke up work the fields had a family and community. Now people have to be totally unique, and don’t have a sense of belonging. We don’t have shame, we have guilt for not living up to our standards, which are imparted to us by media, because our parents, and community elders are no longer our compass point, it’s peers and media. It is just an incredible aberration.

Regardless of the item, banning something on a Parish basis is retarded.

Same here.
Seems impossible that anyone could just jump over to EBR and buy some...
That is annoying though

I’m glad that our government is keeping us safe. Alcohol and cigarettes are totally safe for consumption, not addictive at all, and have tons of medicinal purposes.

Do you think you don't have coping mechanisms, or would you saying all of yours are healthy and balanced?

Question OP, what are the effects of Kratom? How does it make you feel?
Posted on 8/19/22 at 8:16 pm to Gnar Cat21
It’s like the best cup of coffee you have ever had. I have called it sunshine in a cup. It makes me more social, talkative, energetic, focused, driven. I’ve used it to push trough 10 hours of manual labor after the flood. Used it to study and start a new business that without rose colored glasses I may have not, and has given me the financial freedom many dream of. When naive larger doses can be overwhelmingly euphoric where you close your eyes, but not sedating like eating 4 pieces of pizza at work.
I’m not trying to be an advocate for Kratom, just individual liberties. anything that good has it’s habitual tendencies. I am an advocate for healthy coping mechanism and developing resilience if possible.

Kratom should be legal but I highly doubt anyone is thinking “damn, kratom is illegal now in ascension parish so I guess it’s heroin for me”
