Bro you just suggested a refueling race for some redemption. Why not an oil change race?
Oil change would take less time than to charge an ev, so that’s a good point.

You've got it backwards on who treats it as a religion.
Do you own an ev? Or do you have some vested interest in ev?

Given that fast charging is a rare occurrence for most
It’s a rare occurrence now because most of the people who own evs use them as secondary vehicles. Once the entire nation is forced to have them, that will change.

that fuel cost savings appear to be exceeding the cost of eventual battery replacements
The cost to change a battery is around $22000. Gas where I live is $3.19/gallon. So that’s 6896.5 gallons of fuel. Average sedan gets around 27 mpg average. So that’s 186206 miles worth of gas. You still have to pay for charging, and it is going to go up in price whereas gas is abnormally high. Basically you pay for it all later, but you see little to no difference in cost.

I mean, ok... now have the Telsa corner in the mountains
this is coming from someone with an electric car (BMW i4) and thinks they are the future.
Strait line Tesla will beat anything, but you know...need to turn @ some point.

Wow, so everything else got vastly more expensive, plus inflation, and batteries got cheaper! I have to admit, I’m impressed.

Do you own an ev?
quote:As a community and a nation, we all do. But not for any greenie or environmental reasons. It's more about self-sufficiency at the individual and on up to the national level. And it's about reducing energy costs which boosts the economy.
Or do you have some vested interest in ev?
quote:First, we are many decades from being "forced" to have them, if ever. Second, I don't follow your logic that one would have to use fast-charging more often just because more other people get EVs. That doesn't make any sense. Nonsense logic is typical among those with religious devotion to things.
It’s a rare occurrence now because most of the people who own evs use them as secondary vehicles. Once the entire nation is forced to have them, that will change.

You still have to pay for charging
quote:The main thing pushing electricity prices up presently is the volatility in costs of fossil fuels. Renewables are a hedge against that.
and it is going to go up in price

Even if the cost is a wash, the time saved by simply plugging in at home each night vs stopping at a gas station every single week is huge.

With a Tesla, your battery has an 8 year warranty in the extremely unlikely event that it dies in 8 years. But that doesn't mean it'll die right at 8 years, and that's not even mentioning most or at least a ton of people are going to sell their cars before its 10 years old, so you'll likely never need to replace that battery. If you This is where people will point out that used EVs would then have zero value, which is incorrect if you look at 8-9 year old Teslas out of warranty that are selling for around $35k.

Lol, that literally describes the way that ev cultists respond to anyone who doesn’t have 100% favorable views of EVs.

Battery pack should be good for another 100k.
How much does the car in OP cost? A post on the first page implied that it was 130k, is that correct?
If that is correct, you could by a brand new Honda accord and still have $90k plus left to spend on gas and oil changes over the years. You will never be more practical/cheaper in that particular ev if that's the price.

That’s low. Degradation at 100k for Teslas at least is quite low.

Also, where are these cultists you speak of? It's mostly just dudes correcting inaccuracies or having different opinions that are getting you all pissy for some odd reason.

I like to compare the Plaid to an M5. It's probably the best size, cost and performance comparison.

Y’all always do this. Damnit.
I do not hate EVs, I am simply pointing out that there are some issues with them.

Anyone who reacts to facts with emotion.

Nothing that has been stated is inaccurate, in fact you admitted so when you said that I pointed out the one issue that EVs lag in. Or are you now saying that EVs charge as quickly as a petroleum powered vehicle?
quote:

Yep, that was predictable. So I am the one getting pissy? Lol

Mustang GT 350/500 will do fine.
And eat a Tesla on the track.

Depends on the track. And theres a grand canyon between the difference between a 350 and 500.

That's my next point, which I think has already been stated earlier in the thread. With your statement, we're taking practical/cost out of the equation. That means for anyone that can reasonably afford any of the cars in the OP, including the cheapest one being the 130k tesla, the cost of the energy source to power it doesn't make a difference. In which case, the only gain is the 0 to 60 speed. So what point are you trying to make? Earlier in the thread we were talking about practicality of the vehicles. Lot's of the posts in this thread seem to be cost related to fuel/batteries/milage/etc. Specifically, I was thinking of an accord sport with the 2.0 turbo engine. It's fairly quick and looks a hell of a lot better than the Tesla. Just because it's a top of the line tesla doesn't mean anything. You could spend that same 130k and get a damn nice Mercedes. Sure your operational cost will be higher than the tesla at that point, but cost isn't a concern at that point.
