that 1980 Holiday Bowl i remember being a total bitch to beat. i'm pretty sure you were actually down the 24-45 as BYU, but it might've been 31-45. i couldn't stop them on defense with the 2:33 left so i had to kick 3 on side kicks. and these weren't normal onside kicks, these were normal formations where you could shank it to the sideline as a "fake" and your end guy could get to it.

YouTube video of guy playing through all of them...

For NCAA 2004, The Play has you controlling Cal with 8 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter. Stanford kicks a field goal to take the lead, and you have to run the kickoff back to win...

The only reason I beat it was because there was one time when Stanford missed the field goal so The Play never happended. Cal wins 19 to 17

yeah, The Play was one of the more stupid ones. they missed out on an opportunity to have the band on the field.

There's been so many "classics" since then. But it's fun to come up with ones they would need to replicate:

Take over UCLA vs aTm with 4:08 left in the 3rd down 44-10 and win.

Kick Six. (Kind of a terrible one play as, but you couldn't omit it)

As Appalachian State with 1:37 left down 32-31, beat #5 Michigan.

Clemson's final drive vs Bama in the 2016/17 NC.

TCU down 31-0 at halftime to Oregon in the Alamo Bowl

That was one of my favorite modes of all time.

Man I’d be so happy if they just used the same engine/controls as back then and upgraded the graphics.

EA games of that generation handled so much better than the current abominations.

I totally agree on the running game, it feels great. But every time I play NCAA 14, I'm always underwhelmed by the quality of the passing game.

Man loved these modes and I would love if they used the old engine.

the passing game in '14 feels like all-american or heisman when playing on varsity. i can turn the cpu pass defense slider all the way down to zero and LBs/safeties literally figure skate across the field every time.

Exactly. Of course, you can pass for 500 yards easily if you just exploit running a WR up the seam every time, but that gets boring quick.

Plus the lack of WR/DB interaction animations is pretty glaring. They didn't implement those into the Madden engine until the next year. Having a 6'6" WR vs a 5'10" CB is useless because the canned animations don't really allow for you to go up and get the ball. If you lob a pass up in a one-on-one situation, the CB is almost as likely to come down with it as the WR would be.

Leave the running as-is, gussy up the passing system, and we've got us a game.

Anyone else find it funny that the team with the best grades is 1995 Virginia?

But yeah, this mode brings back a core memory.

Because it was too hard or too easy?
