I was in NOLA this wkend for a friend’s birthday.

I was with a group of friends. Friday Galatoire’s lunch and then a party on Saturday night. Stayed at Omni.

As we were leaving this morning - I told my friends- I’m not sure I’ll ever go back. It looks like a third world country. The French Quarter used to be NOLA’s bread and butter. Back in the day, even as gross and seedy as it was - I never felt unsafe. Those architecture Nazis in NOLA used to take to to the next level. The buildings are falling over. There’s graffiti everywhere. I cannot ever remember seeing graffiti on a FQ building in the 90s

The street was filled with potholes. There was trash just everywhere. Just overflowing from trash cans. Gone we’re the street sweepers. I guess they don’t run them anymore? Junkies sleeping on every corner. We could hear drag racers all over the place.

The stench of marijuana was everywhere. And somehow Bourbon Street has taken on stench to new levels. I walked to Galatoire’s almost holding my breath. Even on Friday afternoon the trash was everywhere. Does that moron that “runs” the city even have the garbage picked up?

There’s no charm left in NOLA. It’s been taken over by hipsters who moved in from somewhere else, and criminals. It’s so sad y’all. It’s decayed beyond repair. I don’t know how it’s possible to live there.

What that carpetbagger did to finish off that city is inexcusable. I loved seeing all my friends - but I am just . . . Disturbed by the whole experience.

Sounds like somebody doesn’t appreciate third world culture.

Once upon a time a man had to travel to destinations such as Port au Prince and Mogadishu to experience what Nola currently offers.

That's so sad. All our cities are turning in to this. I can't comprehend how anyone would want to live this way.

Welcome to the party pal… NO has been a shithole for years. Any redeeming qualities it did have after Katrina went away when destroya took over.

I grew up about an hour south of New Orleans and had first cousins that lived there. I never, ever understood the allure of the city, except perhaps for it’s architecture.
I’ve never really had the urge to visit there, and except for a handful of times, I’ve stayed away.
I can’t imagine it being any less appealing to me than it was then, but it sounds as if it’s a definite no go for me anytime in the future. I still can’t understand how tourist plan a vacation around that place. That’s especially true if they have kids.

It's a shame. Nothing like a weekend staying in a nice hotel and eating/walking the Quarter. It was easy and a nice get away.

Now, no longer even an option.

New Orleans started its deterioration in earnest after Katrina. I remember staying in the Monteleone hotel for a workshop in June of 2006, 10 months after the Katrina tragedy, and being overcome by the powerful odor of garlic and stench in the rooms. It was distracting and I could not sleep. And part of the workshop included a field trip to the busted levee and a bird's eye view of the Lower Ninth and the miles and miles of destroyed homes. It was an appalling image that haunts me to this day.

For your next Girls Trip, go to Charleston or Savannah.

It's most (but not all) of what you love about New Orleans, but without most (but not all) of what you hate about New Orleans.

These cities all have to completely collapse now in order for rebirth to begin. They can’t be helped because their culture is in the process of committing suicide. Total social collapse is imminent.

It really smells worse than a sewer. I’ve never been to a city that smells worse.

I can proudly admit my last trip to NOLA was pre-Katrina...and I lived in EBR/LP/PCP as recently as 2014.

It's the most disgusting city in America, or at least tied with Detroit.

And it's never coming back.

This is why I'm not as mad as I should be. The post-Katrina carpetbag crowd swarmed in from all corners and sucked the culture dry. What you're left with is a dried zombie husk of what once was.
