It’s outdated.

Scrap the entire political wrangling.

Update the Constitution.

If you’re trying to say that Congress has rendered itself completely useless, I agree.

Congress has to appropriate the money. There’s no way around them having to pass legislation to spend money.

I’d prefer they pass a budget rather than omnibus spending bills, of course.

Spending at this point in the game for the US is a really bad thing. It will bring the country down. The public is going to continue getting crushed. The youngest generation doesn’t have a fricking chance at saving money and building wealth

Give me a reason why…

Because they hold spending and appropriation power under the Constitution. Other than the elected legislature, who else would you want controlling the purse? What other viable way is there?

Inefficient? It's the fricking government. What else would you expect?

I guess you'd prefer a dictator with absolute power.

I said update the Constitution.

Why do we need some legislative body to control the purse? Is it being controlled?

We have a behemoth structure around spending for what purpose?

It was set up that way for accountability and so representatives spend money on things the public wants. So they don’t get out of control. This isn’t a hard concept. They obviously dgaf what the public thinks anymore.

We don't if they would do their job and pass a budget... Personally, they should not be allowed to pass non-emergency spending bills under any circumstances and "emergency" should have a clearly defined set of qualifiers...

How then do you propose the purse be controlled if not by Congress? Just have the president sign orders to direct spending wherever he chooses?

Unelected bureaucrats in executive branch agencies just decide how much they want to spend on what?

I agree that Congress is shite at this, but what alternative are you proposing?

For real, it’s 2022 and we’re acting like it’s still 1776. Just give the president a credit card and Congress can look at the bill. If they don’t like one of the charges they can dispute it and get our money back.

I asked, is it being controlled? Just take some time to think that through.

Kinda and also others. Like, say, Ecuador needs $2 Billion for coastal river control. Why the whole red tape fiasco to do that? Just do it.

The legislature is the branch of government that represents the people directly. That’s why every nation on earth grants its spending power to the legislature.

Who would you give that authority to?

If this is true it’s because they are mostly candy asses. I have four kids between 30 and 35, and all of them save money. All are married, and three have children, but they have plenty of disposable income.

The young people I know tend to go on long weekend vacations very often. Their bachelor(ette) parties are at resorts in faraway cities like Las Vegas, and their homes are larger than the ones we had when we were their age. If they are not saving maybe it’s because they are spending so lavishly.

And what goes into “just doing it”. Hint, appropriating that money is a big step in the process.

Why does Congress feel the need to pass spending bills in the middle of the night on a weekend?

To fund pet projects to launder money through…duh!

That’s what every “green” project is.
