Chartreuse is 1000% a unique color that needs naming.

You can name a color whatever you want, but as most kindergarteners learned we only need the three primary colors to make any outer color, or white.
“The three additive primary colours are red, green, and blue; this means that, by additively mixing the colours red, green, and blue in varying amounts, almost all other colours can be produced, and, when the three primaries are added together in equal amounts, white is produced.”

Don't forget teal. Graphics, gauge bezels and cup holders on my boat are teal.

It is believed that ancient peoples didn’t “see” the color blue. Not because they were color blind, but because they didn’t have a distinct word for it and thought of it as a shade of green.
Smart people those ancients.

White is absolutely a color. In fact it's all colors. If something is not a color then it's transparent.

quote:No, it is greenish-yellow or yellowish-green. If you give that one a name then you gotta name a reddish-orange and an orangeish-yellow and a greenish-blue and a blueish-purple (again frick indigo) and that's just too many names.

Ok clearly I think we have too many named colors, but I admit that we need a least a few so I'd like to hear from people who can count higher than 2.

How many named colors do we need?
