Listen to Harvey Williams tell you.

He tells you a bit more about his thoughts on Emmitt Smith as well....

Good find.

Basically Harvey saying what lots of folks think. Emmitt Smith wasn’t special he just had the benefit of being on some great teams with great Offensive lines.

Can’t help but think the coaching change that year didn’t help in his recruitment

Were we running the Joe Brady offense at this point? That’s probably why.

Harvey Williams is butthurt. Smith was really good behind an average college OL and he might of made that Dallas line look a little better than they actually were.

Close. It was the Ed Zaunbrecher offense which was quite prolific in its own right

False. He did not make the Dallas line look better than they were. They made him look better than he was.

Harvey Williams' neck > Emmitt Smith's legs

The NFL’s all time leading rusher wasn’t special? Look I’m a Cowboys fan, and Barry Sanders, Jim Brown get the benefit of the doubt over him, but there aren’t many others outside of that. The O-line was good, and the team was good, but how many major major players and coaches across any sport, didn’t have pretty good teams at one point or another?

Emmitt Smith sure broke a lot of tackles to have not been impressive. When Emmitt held out the backs that replaced him couldn't gain behind the Dallas OL and Dallas lost 2 in a row. Emmitt signs and rejoins the team and Dallas doesn't lose anymore and wins the Super Bowl

I'm no Cowboys fan, but he did run for all those yards and TD's and rarely missed a game over a long period of time.

Of course his line was good. However he still showed up and put up great numbers. Sometimes a players best trait may not be all flash and more be their dependability.

That Dallas O line was one of the best if not the best of it's era, the entire O was great, Irvin and Harper, Novachek at TE and Aikman of course, no doubt that Smith was great but he was in a perfect situation in that offense and era

Harvey is right. Switch Barry Sanders and Emmitt Williams offensive lines and watch

Barry Sanders was on another level

I think what made Emmitt Smith so great that he hit the correct hole more often than ever has or will do. When you watched him play, there was nothing he did that overwhelmed you, yet he kept on having great run after great run.

Yeah Barry would've still ran for negative 4 on half his carries behind that line.
