Maybe. By 2024, which is when they expect the deal to close. And it might not close.
So, Spirit is not dead at all right now.

Spirit has some great routes and great arrival/departure times. They don’t deserve the hate. Not all of us can afford to fly business. And the bonus of possibly seeing a knock down drag out brouhaha between two 250lb + Karens is worth it anyhow.
The merger makes a lot of sense and makes an actual decent airline imho.

Been joking with my JetBlue friends about this today. Agree that spirit has good unique routes, but usually a worse clientele

No they do, and so do most of the people that fly them. Holy trash hole! Passing by the Spirit gate is like walking through the trashiest Wal-Mart. And then seeing them knees deep in carry-on gear….
There are certain demographics that aren’t economically savvy, and there are businesses that pray on those people. Spirit Airlines is one.
Good riddance! Hope Sun Country dies soon too.

Well I’m a non- elite state college guy and I just flew to my apartment in Costa Rica for the first time with Spirit ( usually United) and I’d give them an A+. Nola to Ft Lauderdale, Ft Lauderdale to San Jose , two 2 hour hops, there by 11.30, before the crowds at immigration. Flight attendants were professional, plane was spotless clean and the passengers looked just like any other flight. I was actually impressed. I mean I flew Emirates from Dubai this months too, so I do have comparables. I honestly was impressed and would recommend for budget travelers like myself who like to save $300 and put it towards the adventure ahead.

I pay less flying a legacy carrier, because I have checked luggage and carry-on items (x2). I don’t pay fees for either, unlike Spirit. Poor people stay poor because of businesses like Spirit Airlines.

To not totally shat on Spirit Airlines, savvy travelers with no luggage / carry-ones can do real well flying them between busier airports.
My problem with them is seeing the line of suckers at the gate with luggage / carry-on items finally realizing they have to pay more. I saw one couple with a full luggage set. No clue how that made it through security.

I bring almost 50 lbs of camping / hiking / fishing equipment for at least one flight a year. For the rest I do check one bag, have a carry-on backpack, and computer case. I pay zero dollars for these as I am MVP status with Alaska Airlines.
So, no, I am a pro.

Ive bought a ticket same day and 2 days before on Spirit paid abt 125 to 150 RT each time, crew was great and I knew how small my carryon had to be. Noone preyed on me and I was glad to use them.

The people that know what to expect and the full costs, they can totally use that airline to their advantage in certain circumstances. What makes me hate the airline is constantly seeing people at the gate with all of their luggage surprised with the charges. Since I fly Alaska Airlines into EWR semi regularly, I see it too often when walking past.

After reading your extremely strong opinions on a budget airline I regret taking the cheaper , faster and more enjoyable flight from MSY to SJO. Next time I’ll pay more at a worse time so as to avoid the riff raff . How could I be so déclassé ? Maybe it was the lack of grey poupon in the barn I was raised in.

Whenever anyone disses Spirit in conversations, I am keyed up to point out why they arent nearly as bad as people try to make them out to be. On one flight the crew was cracking jokes like if you ring the bell because you cant figure out the AC we will charge you bc this aint Delta, they had fun with it all, always friendly too. Ill gladly pay 3 dollars for a water if I save 100 on a ticket. If I cant save 100 and the bag costs are too high I wont fly them. The clientele is a step down but fly with anyone these days and the clientele sucks.

You do realize there are thousands and thousands of people in the same boat. You are not special.
For someone so important you seem to know a lot about Spirit.

Frontier has countered this move with quite a few $19 one way fares this fall if anyone is interesting. It’s mid week travel but some really deals out there

This would be me. I just take a backpack as my personal item. No carry on, no checked luggage.

The people here who proudly claim that they would never dream of flying Spirit and allowing themselves to be contaminated by the trash that flies that airline?
Those are the same people who will go over to the Poli Board and complain that "the elites" are running and ruining the country.

I hate to hear this. Spirit has been great to me.
** Better routes and times.
** Rarely delayed or canceled.
** Even with cost of bages still 40% cheaper then Delta.
** AA, United, and Jet Blue are horrible about over booked, delayed, if not canceled.
So yeah out of the major Airlines I fly Spirit with the upgrade package to Latin America.
