left Alex 10 years ago and yeah I never remember the crime and violence being as bad as it is now. It was always on the other side of the train tracks too. I never felt unsafe growing up.
I spent a couple days there for work back in 2002. Just looked like an average small town, with some obviously very poor neighborhoods. 20 years later, in that video at least, it looks like the 5th ward in Houston or any other urban ghetto. Amazing what pop culture, shitty politics, and cheap drugs can do.

The Bayview has obviously changed a hell of a lot since the ‘80s
I've always laughed at it's name: The Bayview Yacht Club.
For one, it is located no where near a bay, unless you count the bayou down the road a bay. Also, you won't find many yacht owners hanging out there.

Back in the day there was a nightclub called the Lighthouse......what ever happened to that place? Is it still in operation? If not, when did it change?

Born and raised there. 25 years of my life.
I'll never set foot in that shite hole again. If I ever rise to any sort of fame (I won't), there's no way in hell I'm saying I'm from that place.
frick, man. What a disgrace.

I love how we are pretending that this same scene couldn't and hasn't happened in almost every town/city in the South

It’s area of Jackson is still decent. It must have been some pre planned thing to have 5000 people show up and show their asses literally.

It happens everywhere, sure. But certain cities have a few redeeming qualities. This could be Shreveport, Lake Charles, BR, Lafayette, or NO. But all of those cities have attractions that Alexandria does not.
I know most people dislike their hometowns, but there is something a little bit special about cenla in terms of how awful it is.

I was raised near Alexandria. I had lots of family that live/lived in Alex.
My wife was raised on Jackson Street her entire life. Her parents still live there.
I'm fully aware of Alex
I just found your post to be ridiculously dramatic

Blame it on the “chick” that opened bootleggers. She brought that shite down the street

Well, excuse me if I keep my dramatic tone.
I wasn't raised near Alexandria. I was raised in the city, for the first decade of my life in a rundown duplex on Alma street, and then in the garden district in a very old shotgun house.
I'm not going to champion the things I saw growing up. That town made me who I am. But they also made my friends who they were. Many of whom are young men like the ones in that video, not an insignificant portion of them now dead. People I knew my entire life, people I grew up playing ball with, dead before 30.
It's disgusting.

I spent the first 17 years of my life there. I left as soon as possible and have barely been back except for weddings and funerals.
