He has no choice but to say this, but sounds like the players at ND are all happier to play for Freeman vs Kelly.

They gonna be happy when they lose to Syracuse cuz their head coach has no experience?

What else is he going to come out and say? Our HC left for another program, we are screwed. Bottom line is Brian Kelly revived ND football, and left that program for LSU. Freeman can do all the recruiting in the world, still not sure how he will be as a HC of a major program. Mayer isn’t going to come out and speak of how much better Kelly is than Freeman, it would be another blow to ND to say that. We know it’s the truth.

I thought a lot of these lifts and runs can't be sanctioned and usually don't have the head coach there lol

On one hand, O won 1 championship more than he should have. On the other, Miles won 2 fewer.

So, there's that.

Is the head coach allowed to attend strength and conditioning sessions during the summer as Mayer describes?

Mayer is a beast. The best player on their team.

Are they happier to play for Saban and his demanding style or would they rather Shula, the player's coach?

The young, energetic coach is great if you’re winning big at the same time. We’ll see if the tone around freeman remains the same if they slip. BK had ND basically going 10-2 or better every year for the past 4 years with 2 playoff appearances and on the doorstep of another. The media would give their souls for freeman to win a natty.

Just like the Texas players were happier to play for Charlie Strong than Mack Brown.

You got that right. Mayer sounds like a girl who got ghosted on prom night. The hurt feelings color everything he says. And don’t ignore the frequent references to Coach Kelly going “ down there” as if Louisiana is on a different planet.
Last but not least, referring to Freeman as “one of the boys” and the cliché “players coach” is weak. That’s often code for a lack of discipline. Don’t think anyone ever called Saban or Bellichek one of the boys.
Freeman has yet to coach a game as head coach let alone finish a season. Can’t be compared to Coach Kelly in any rational universe.
All in all, lame interview.

I’m sure Freeman very much is an objectively cooler guy from the eyes of a 20 year old college football player than Brian Kelly was. That doesn’t mean shite about who’s the better coach though. 20 year old athletes with 2 years of freshman and sophomore pre-reqs under their belts aren’t equipped to run a multimillion dollar operation nor do they really care about anything other than who they like the most. The “cool boss” is always cool and fun until shite hits the fan and you’re stuck playing for a dying program

Why do yall care so much? He didn't say anything wrong.

So its ok for our players/fans to compare and talk up Kelly... but its problem when a well respected Notre Dame player does the same? Make it, make sense...

exactly

I mean this guy has zero head coaching experience

its massive risk for ND

if he is out running the players

and Kelly is out recruiting

I mean, that's a pretty good sign LSU is on Track and ND better hope they can maintain what Kelly built

What choice do they have? Kelly isn't there.
