Eh, things like this have been around for decades. When I was playing in the late 80's one of the fads was using a broom stick handle cut to length with bike grips cut and lined up for correct hand placement on one end, and a 6" or so length of pipe insulation for the barrel on the other. We'd hit whiffle golf balls with it. Loved those things. 
Remember another one that was a lumpy ball that bounced crazy that would help with hand/eye coordination in the infield. Some MLB guy was pimping that.
