Meteoroid hit has caused 'significant uncorrectable' damage to James Webb Space Telescope

However one strike - which occurred between 22 and 24 May - was caused by a larger micrometeoroid and resulted in "significant uncorrectable change" to segment C3 according to the document.

Fortunately, this change is not especially impactful on how the telescope as a whole functions - and NASA has said that its performance is continuing to exceed expectations - but it fundamentally reduces the accuracy of the data collected.

There’s the big lie right there.

It will come out later it is a major catastrophe. There will be epic and legendary finger pointing. There will be congressional hearings once the crappy photos are kept from the public.

The proposed budget was 500 million.
Yeah, right. Let’s try for what was actually spent on the telescope. 10 BILLION DOLLARS!! Let’s say it again with gusto….10 BILLION DOLLARS!!!

Gee, I wonder what happened? I wonder if there was any waste. I wonder how many greased their pockets from all these tax dollars.

Now the thing becomes a clusterfrick heap of junk floating around in space barely functioning because somebody didn’t take into account some pebbles would frick things up. A shitty design plan to maybe……CUT COSTS???

Check yourself there mate. That pile of space junk can take pictures of light against a black background that can then be colorized and artistically modified into something kind of interesting to look at.

Well that’s not good. According to Liberator it a fake star that was supposed to supplant the fading luminescence of our Sun. So I guess the Earth can finally start cooling off now.

People called out their fake pictures. Now suddenly it gets hit by a meteor.

Lies, lies, more lies..

We've known this since almost directly after it happened.

They've known about the possibility of micro-meteoroid strikes since almost the beginning of the project, and designed it so that several hits to different panels and it would still be functional.

You people are insane.

Suddenly...we've known about this since early June and it was planned for.

Here's the thread on it. From this board. From June 9th.

They are capturing all the files on a 68gb device. I read the reasoning for such a small storage unit, but I went to public school and still think it is stupid to create those limitations.

That is plenty of space for images, especially if the data is being aged out and storage reused.

It would not need to store TBs of data, what would be the point. Grab the images and transmit to Earth, rinse and repeat

I agree though something in the billions of $$$ only had 68gb of storage seems weird.

This is all a poorly done fake.

Hubble takes black and white pictures and false color is added to those too. (Webb's are orange and yellow in the visible spectrum).

What if it functions fine for a while. Do you think the possible discoveries are worth the price?

Like say we get the big one. The discovery of a techno signature or whatever it called..proof of life or even another civilization. Do you think that is worth the cost?
