Cheers is very good. I would add Taxi and Newhart to the discussion. Taxi was a great ensemble comedy and Bob Newhart is just that good.

I was getting ready to mention Taxi. They all went to greater things. Christopher Lloyd, who would have guess probably had the most success in life.
Cheers did not miss a beat when Coach passed and they got Woody and when Shelley Long left and they got Kirstie Alley.

Cheers definitely batted 1.000 on replacements.
Night Court did too. They got better with their cast changes.

Night Court is one of those shows that rarely gets mentioned among the greats, but it consistently did what a comedy is supposed to do - make you laugh.

You don't get the bickering between Frasier and Niles though, plus Coach was really annoying.

I think this might be an age thing...because most die-hard Cheers fans who watched it live...are for Coach and hated when Woody came on...
Just like MASH fans preferred Trapper over BJ.
But I guess with Woody's fame and filmography, over time, he's seen as the more popular choice now.
But he wasn't initially popular back then. HE was the one who was seen as annoying.

I was born in 84 so obviously I didn't watch Cheers until long after they stopped making episodes. Diane annoyed the shite out of me too.

Cheers is so damn good. Imagine cheers being put out today. So many woke hands on this site would love to see it changed

Same. She sucked

Lilith: “Do you make a drink for failures here at Cheers?”
Sam: “Uh, hold on…hey Phil, what are ya drinking?”
Phil (indignantly): “A Manhattan!”
Sam (to Lillith): “Manhattan.”
Probably one of my favorite sitcom moments ever

I think she annoyed the shat out of 95% of the viewers. I think her movie career never mounted to much.

Watched another great one last night where Frasier dates the woman who reminds everyone of his mom.

I was watched it from season 1 and never felt that way. Nicholas Colasanto died, it’s not like he left or the network refused to pay him, they had to move in, so they created a younger version, at first it was just trying to recapture the bungling but lovable character but over time Woody became one of the stronger characters.

Not sure where you’re getting this. Nicholas Colosanto died. It’s not like he was fired. Woody was a seamless addition. I don’t remember anyone being upset.
And I watched it from the premiere on.

And I watched it from the premiere on.
I was hooked from the start, when the little kid tried to buy a drink with a military ID.
Sam: So how was Nam?
Kid (frowning): Gross.
Sam: Yeah, I think I’ve read that somewhere - “War is gross”.

I never said he was replaced... But it's a Trapper John, BJ debate. The comedy rapport between Sam and Coach was better than Sam and Woody. Just like Hawkeye was better with Trapper.
