CNN predictably downplaying Greenwood citizen's actions

CNN putting in work to make sure their lemmings continue to believe it's not actually that big of a deal that this kid was there to stop the shooting. They're as bad as Everytown.
CNN article
Do we think that it might have something to do with active shooters choosing targets that are "gun free zones?"
I don't think it's an unreasonable assumption to say the outcome here would have been worse if only one person had been armed.
CNN article
quote:
It's rare to have an armed bystander attack an active shooter, according to data from the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) at Texas State University.
There were at least 434 active shooter attacks in the US from 2000 to 2021, according to the ALERRT data. Active shooter attacks were defined as those in which one or more shooters killed or attempted to kill multiple unrelated people in a populated place.
Of those 434 active shooter cases, an armed bystander shot the attacker in 22 of the incidents. In 10 of those, the "good guy" was a security guard or an off-duty police officer, the ALERRT data said.
Do we think that it might have something to do with active shooters choosing targets that are "gun free zones?"

And having more than one armed person at the scene who is not a member of law enforcement can create confusion and carry dire risks, according to a data analysis published by The New York Times. For example, an armed bystander who shot and killed an attacker in 2021 in Arvada, Colorado, was himself shot and killed by the police who mistook him for the gunman, the Times reported.
I don't think it's an unreasonable assumption to say the outcome here would have been worse if only one person had been armed.

This does work :)

Seems like it’s also becoming rare for cops to attack an active shooter as well until they have 400 on scene to deal with it.
When seconds count, police are only minutes away. Thanks but I’ll keep carrying for my and my family’s protection.

And that the media treats guns as if they are racist aliens made out of plutonium.

Even if you take the CNN article at face value, 22 out of 434 is still pretty great.
What happened to “if it saves just one life” that is always at the center of the lefts emotional arguments?

Some additional data on those 434 incidents.
A bystander stopped the shooter 64 times, 22 with a firearm and 42 by physical force. I think I'd prefer to have a firearm.
Police stopped the shooter 131 times, 98 with a firearm and 33 by physical force. Seems like the police also prefer to have a firearm.
The shooter stopped the attack themselves 238 times, whether by suicide, surrender, or fleeing the scene.
Updated info from the data source:

Meh.
The kid did good and deserves credit for his actions, but the additional data is interesting, and I see no reason to NOT report it.
Should the media provide more info in OTHER shootings, too. Yeah.
EDIT
cool flowchart.

Sure, report the data. But, that isn't what they did. They crafted a narrative, then selected data that supported that narrative and ignored the rest.
At best, it's garbage analysis.

That would be quality reporting to Hank so you're talking to a brick wall.

I think you are making a mountain from a molehill. CNN has two stories on p.1 related to the incident. One focuses entirely upon the incident itself and contains SEVERAL glowing passages about the Good Samaritan, like the following:
quote:The other article is the background piece that you cite.
“But I'm going to tell you, the real hero of the day is the citizen that was lawfully carrying a firearm in that food court and was able to stop this shooter almost as soon as he began," (police chief) Ison said.

What kind of buttfrick simps for CNN?
Oh...well of course.

I think I've been involved in gun rights and data analysis and have seen this type of..."reporting" more often than you have.

That's a direct quote from the police chief, not a data point or conclusion from CNN.

The shear numbers that people use a firearm to defend themselves is something that has never been reported by the media (except gun groups and pro-gun authors) and for that matter, Republicans don't tout those numbers. Those numbers should be the first thing that come out of their mouths when gun-control measures are introduced and infringing on our rights.

Just they're wording makes the hero sound bad.

How many of those 434 active shooter attacks were in gun free zones? That seems to be the most relevant variable here.

I suppose that depends on who you ask, and how they define "active shooter" and "gun free zones." John Lott says it's 94%. Everytown for Gun Control says it's actually 10%.
I think they're both wrong, but I tend to lean away from any research done by a group filled with anti-gun zealots.

Interesting that they kill themselves 2x more frequently than surrendering once cops arrive. And almost 4x as likely to be shot than subdued.

I agree with the article these shooters are allowed to go on killing without interruption too often. But in my opinion the solution would be more upstanding citizens legally carrying and prepared to act in these situations. You’d have fewer of these incidents if the attacker feared being killed. How many of these shootings are stopped by leos? In my experience cops don’t usually stop crime they just write the report afterwards.

Yep, which seems to support the notion that at their core, these shooters are frequently seeking a high-profile suicide.
