Gonna be a lot of ppl getting their Entergy disconnected

I just went down the rabbit hole of this Fb group bitching about their high as giraffe arse bills. A lot of these ppl won’t be able to pay these bills. We are lucky to have demco at home and while it’s gone up, it’s not near as rapid a rise as entergy. If you’re on a fixed budget idk what you are gonna do. You might have to sit in a dark hot room for the rest of the summer.

Talked to a lady who was a customer service rep for a small electric co-op in ms a few months ago. She quit because most of her calls were people begging for them to not disconnect their service due to nonpayment

That really sucks.
The co-ops are cheaper but they literally can't afford to give people a break.

I used to bring a dishwasher home from work when I managed restaurants. He and his mother lived next to each other and one or both of them were disconnected at any given time. Yet, he had several kids and I remember his excitement when his girlfriend got pregnant. I can't imagine having a family at home with no power.

Theyre are a LOT people in the New Orleans area who are lucky to clear $400-$500 a week on their paychecks. Most of them pay around $1000 a month in rent. Imagine if this was your income and Entergy drops a $400 power bill in your lap for June, and then you hear its gonna get worse the next few months?

But Eric Skrmetta says Entergy has this right. And I suppose they do, this is a reality. You have to pay for the service. But honestly, out public service commission really needs an overhaul. There have to be better ideas than this.

My comment is off-topic of OP, but Entergy is terrible and just does whatever it wants.
My favorite is when a storm is imminent, they warn everyone that they could lose a huge portion of their grid. 4 hours before said storm hits, power goes out across their grid.
Storm didn't even hit anything yet.
How bad is your infrastructure for that to happen? Or how much do you manipulate situations.
And I know people that work for Entergy. That shite is sad.

Waterford 3 nuke plant is shut down when winds exceed 80 mph. In addition to the load shedding, pre-emptively killing power can reduce damage/repair time on certain equipment.

IMO Entergy does not have a good record of honestly dealing with any situation.

It sucks. We have LUS in Lafayette and our bill was $410 for June and we used less energy than the previous June. More than doubled. We do fairly well, but it’s still causing us to change how we do certain things. Much harder to save when everything is at least 15-20% more expensive yet income has stayed the same. I should be up for a raise this month so hopefully that helps some.

I don’t understand the logic of charging customers more than they can afford, so they drop service completely. If your objective is to recoup money lost in damages, chasing paying customers away is not the way to do it.

I bought a BR house in 1996. My bill averaged $85-110. It was even less in the cool months. In Dec. of 2000, we had a cold snap. My bill went up $50, with an additional $450 Fuel adjustment charge. Everybody got hosed. The news contacted Entergy and the PSC. Both of their answers were "frick you. Pay it, or go without."
At the same time, the govt. was adding taxes and fees on everything imaginable. I got nickeled and dimed at DMV for a few thousand. I found a job in FL, with a 20% pay bump, better bennies, and was gone in a few months.
LA is still the same, just with higher crime. Will the last one out turn out the lights?

So people didn’t know bills were going up? Didn’t think to maybe adjust accordingly? That’s what I did. Latest bill was higher but not too bad.
