Miss St players said they heard a whistle and stopped. The whistle was rumored to have come from the stands.

I remember that return. I went from yelling No, No, No to Yes, Yes, Yes. Heck of a return.

was at that game, stadium was packed!!!

ETA: there was another 100+ return that he did(long time ago, might be confusing this,) where he made a fair catch signal, back pedaled into the end zone, then decided to run it out and took it to the house, obviously the refs blew the call

I was at that game and remember asking my FIL "What the fudge (only I didn't say "fudge") is he doing?"

I was one of the few left in the student section for that game. It stormed and the stadium was only about 1/3 full. I remember watching and saying WTF are you doing then immediately going crazy. Incredible.

That is way up there on the list of the most incredible punt returns I have witnessed in Tiger Stadium. I was one year old on Halloween night 1959, but this one reminds me of Dietzel's reaction to Billy Cannon's run. He went from yelling "No Billy No" to "Go Billy Go". I was yelling the same to Eddie.

And that is classic Jim Hawthorne.

That punt return was classic Eddie. Thanks for posting it.

The call on the video was also vintage Jim Hawthorne.

“The snap is high…Kennison let’s it bounce…AWWW he fielded it and stepped in the end zone!!!

Or did he!?”

Probably my favorite LSU play of all time. That was the first game my dad went to after my mother passed away and I sat in her seat. I remember my dad laughing and cheering as the play developed. It took his mind off my mom for just a few seconds but it was great to see him show the emotion.

Man seeing that punt return and listening to Hawthorne and Moreau gave me chills! I worked for the cable company back then when Tigervision was the shite. So just about every Saturday night I was listening on the radio while working!
