USL is basically Division II for Soccer in the US with MLS being Division I (or like AAA right below MLB).
There are 27 USL Franchises.
I know this board is going to be real excited about it.

New Orleans is getting a soccer team in the USL. Here's what we know about the city's newest pro franchise.

Where are they going to play?

New Orleans currently does not have a stadium that meets standards.
From the Nola article:

The preferred venue, according to people familiar with the talks, would be a newly built stadium in the River District, the $1 billion entertainment-focused development being planned on the east bank near the Crescent City Connection. That project is designed to erect housing, shops, office buildings, hotels and an array of entertainment and cultural venues on 39 currently barren acres owned by the state-controlled Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

USL is a pretty big step up from the Jesters, from my understanding.
Baby steps.

Set up a relegation system you cowards. My body needs the Birmingham Legion in the MLS

In Europe they’d be rioting if you just started a new team over the top of a lower league team that’s been there for decades

What about Tad Gormley?

USL teams are highly competitive in the US Open and routinely beat MLS teams.

Apparently we are actually getting a men's league team and a women's league team.
They seem to want to build a new stadium in a touristy area.
River District is an option.
Remember pre-Katrina when we discussed tearing down the Iberville area and putting a stadium there? They could do that.
Although if they want to go where the fans are... I'd imagine they could tear down Esplanade mall and build there.

Good for NOLA.
I remember when the Dallas Burn played New Orleans’ minor league team in the summer of ‘98. It was a good atmosphere.

Would be very cool if the new stadium is in the River District, along with Pels new arena!
Stadium could host HS football as well!

Pels are actively working to get a new Arena in that River District, so this could get interesting.
