Did you just see that overhead shot? That’s not a bad crowd at all.

Looks better than it did earlier!

You might have blurry vision. There’s a lot of space on those bleachers.

No there's not, dumb arse. The stadium looks full except behind the stage.

Spoken word poetry pretty much makes me want to murder people.

I'm jaded though. There are so many times I can stomach someone telling that a certain event is big for Birmingham only to see Taylor Hicks is a part of it.

Agreed. The people bitching about it aren’t people that get out around town anyway. There’s a lot of excitement around it. I’ve got tickets for sport climbing and parkour at Sloss and plan on walking over to Avondale park to watch some archery. It’s gonna be a fun week ahead.

This song about Alabama sucks. If I'm one of the athletes I'm thinking this place is corny as frick.

Again, I’m coming from a spot where I do see this as a positive, but the over the top platitudes about how “the world is watching Birmingham,” “history was made”, etc. is the frustrating part. Go to any random guy on the street in Atlanta, Nashville, or hell even Huntsville and ask them what the World Games are, where they are being held, and chances are they will have no clue what you’re talking about.

What Bham needs are a few corporations to be HQ’d here so we can start attracting deep pockets and major sporting events that aren’t relegated to online broadcasts or secondary sports channels. Hopefully the new coat of paint Bham got out of all of this will attract a little attention to that end. The World Games was also a first step in regional cooperation. Beam’s municipality issue has always been a problem. We’ll need a lot more progress there because Birmingham alone won’t get us there.

CBS Sports Network is carrying 12 hours of coverage throughout the games, with more in Paramount+ I believe.

This is the kind of miserable negativity that I have come to expect from this place.

Apparently several Downtown Bham restaurants had their worst Friday nights of the Summer last night. Between confusion of street closures, fear of no parking, and the belief that all of these people are here, there's this unintended consequence happening of a lot of people avoiding downtown.

Went to the Canopy Piloting (parachuting) at Barbers today. It was pretty fun, just hot.

Got to talk to some of the athletes which was cool.
