re: Ran across this image, is it true, or is it Big Oil propaganda?

Can go to the moon away from our planet, but cannot figure out what we have here? Priorities seems to be out of place. WE are fricking too much worried about what can be, rather than “What Is”

I've always had a problem with the term "fossil fuel"
I believe its a renewable resource the earth provides through chemical breakdowns from its core temperatures.
Even as a kid in elementary school, I didn't buy the "the dinosaurs and plants died and created oil over billions of years" bullshite. It's as if they created that story to reinforce the "non-sustainable" argument.

Hard to say. We've used petroleum for about 100 years and that's from oilfields all across America. I doubt that area can outproduce those fields by two or three times
Your argument does not account for efficiency of recovery and refinement. We couldn't access near the amount of oil and gas 50 years ago that we can today. Improvements in refinement have been significant over the last 50 years also, there isn't near as much waste.

This is true. We will never run out of oil resources, only economic oil resources.
Not sure why he got all the downvotes. Maybe all the smart guys are busy being productive this time of day?

True. I think it goes back to when kids were taught oil comes from rotting dinosaurs and eventually there won't be any more.
Oil is from carbon. Carbon has always existed. You and I are made of carbon.

Not even counting the Bakken or Eagle Ford or the vast untapped ANWR reserves, nor even touching the supergiant Haynesville and Marcellus reserves.

I was literally two miles away from never having to work another day in my life when they stopped expanding the haynesville shale. Two fricking miles! There are folks in that area that never had more than $500 to their names that were making $50K, or more, per month. Two. fricking. Miles.
They did testing and leased the land. There's a shite ton of oil and gas just sitting there. Nothing.

It’s created from the decomposition of organic material. We make biofuels from organic materials using the oil in it.
Crude oil is just natures way of doing this over thousands of years. Think if an animal dies on the ground, and decomposes. The grease spot left weeks later is just a type of oil. All that seeps into the ground. The oils in plants that die seeps into the ground. Eventually it all works it’s way into reservoirs just like groundwater does.
You can pump it out faster than it replenishes but it’s not a finite amount. You could stop pumping and over centuries the reserves would refill, or new reserves would be created under areas with a lot of organic growth.

Is that the Permian Basin? Heard it discussed in a podcast the other day.

Monterrey shale in California, too. Although, that is known to be in the ground, just unable to be extracted at this time.

The new finds in the Permian about 4-5 years ago were pretty significant and a lot of it is recoverable.

Dude, I’m a petroleum geologist. I understand. Permian won’t supply the US for two hundred years. Maybe for the next 25 if we import half our oil.

Who’s they? It’s renewable alright, over geologic time. That’s millions and millions of years. Tens of millions of years.

False
Also the super majors aren’t really that invested in the Permian as much they used to be - so not sure I would label it as “big oil propaganda”. Exxon is focused on ultra deep water off coast of Guyana for example.

If SA has peaked (which seems to be what Macron was telling China Joe), the world is in big trouble.
I think the key in all of these estimates is flow rate. There is more gold dissolved in the world's oceans than in all of its mines. Go get it. Similar principle for oil. Potential oil in the ground doesn't mean much. How much you can extract at any one time is what's important. This is why I always thought the unconventional plays were not that important in the grand scheme of things. If they require a ton if investment and give you a nice bump for a decade, that helps for a bit. But, it's not going to run the global economy or interstate highway system in the long term.
