Would Jimi Hendrix be a famous musician today?

It's an interesting question on Rick Beato's YouTube channel.
He was interviewing Jeff Berlin ( jazz fusion bassist) and he said this:
"Musicians owned the music industry in the '70s. And we did. Just if you could play, you could play, you were a star. Today that doesn't count really, for the most part. Today's industry barely it seems to me pays attention to the great players today. I mean, I'm utterly and absolutely convinced that if Jimi Hendrix came along today, no one would notice him."

Gary Clark Jr. is doing well for himself.

Jimi would be canceled today for having a Band of Gypsies following him around.

Which means Jimi would be doing better, since he was a much better guitar player than GCJ.

I have never really thought of it, but, after giving it some thought, I say that he has a very good point. He may be right about that.

No, he’d overdose quicker than he did back in the day. Drugs are way more prevalent today.

I agree, but I think Jeff Berlin was being a little loose with his language. The overarching point he was making and I've made it myself, it seems that the famous "musicians" today are generally a lot less talented today compared to earlier times. Of course there are expectations but social media status with clicks and a big arse is more important today than musical talent. As long as your arse can jiggle to a simple beat, that's big money.

Depends on if he can get a Lil Baby feature

It’s not just about playing. Not only was Hendrix an unGodly guitar player that was revolutionary, he was an outstanding song writer. This quote from this dumb arse just simply shows how clueless he is.

I love his music, but I highly doubt he would be famous today.

Jimi just took too many sleeping pills that night, he drank that night, choked on his own vomit, sleeping pills prevented him from waking up. I feel like it’s a common misconception that he died from a heroin overdose

Jimi would be a pretty mediocre professional player these days.

The better question is would he ever be given a guitar? And that's what would be the tragedy.

Hey Joe, you need to put down the Purple Haze…

Jimi may be bigger today than back then. The industry is starved for creativity and talent. Jimi wrote, recorded, and released Are You Experienced in 6 months. That is arguably the most complete debut album of all time. His playing was incredibly interesting and different. I can't imagine him not being successful in any era.

You believe the music industry gate keepers would be promoting Jimi if he were a musician today?
The question is not whether or not Jimi is a great musician/song writer. He clearly was. Berlin is making the point that great musicians/song writers are not really that valued by the music industry today.
