I'm not sure I'd consider it sci-fi.

Oh that reminds me, The History of Time Travel, on Prime, is severely under-appreciated. A lot of people can't get past the terrible acting to see where the story goes, but it's only 1h10m long. The production is bad but the story is great.

If anything it's overrated. I mean, it's mentioned a lot and has been ever since release.

People rarely talk about this as being one of Cruise’s and Spielberg’s best.

Denzel and Russell Crowe!

Enjoyed that one as well. They actually shot that here in BR. By buddy ran into Cruise at Little Caesars during filming.

Somehow, a lot of people on here don't like this movie.

The Fifth Element? You must be thinking of a different movie Although I will say I don't think its underrated. Pretty widely loved.

makes no sense. was it as good as the original? no. was it a solid sequel with a fantastic soundtrack and visuals? yes.

people get all hung up 'God worship' for a certain movie and are ready-at-their-keyboards to shite on anything that doesn't meet or exceed what they perceive the original to be.

2049 was a great flick. one of my favorite movies to watch over and over.

Was coming to post this.

Pandorum creeped me out when the guy woke up from hyper sleep screaming with the creatures around him and they put a pole through his head.

I think people throw around the term sci-fi too loosely. When considering a future world or alternative world, I think sci-fi should pay at least mild attention to imagining technology in a somewhat realistic way. Stories about AI or time travel often pay attention to real principles, but a lot of stories with space travel are more adventure stories with little regard for technology or physics. For example, Firefly was a great series but the technology of space travel was not important to the story.

Boy, Valerian was the most frustrating movie. It was absolutely gorgeous to watch, but I hated the main cast. I wanted to like it because it looks so good, but I doubt I'll ever watch it again.

Came to post this and was pleasantly surprised it was the OP entry. Very nice. I hadn't heard about it until about 2-3 years ago. Really enjoyed it.
