People using the center turn lane to merge into traffic.

Using the merge lane to stop and wait until no car is visible within 1/2 mile. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconbanghead.gif)

ETA: It is legal to turn left on red if you are on a one way turning on to another one way.
Eight states plus Washington, D.C. prohibit “left turn on red” altogether. Two of those, Maine and New Hampshire, are in your area. The other six are Connecticut, Missouri, New Jersey, North Carolina, Rhode Island, and South Dakota. The latter, South Dakota, has some local exceptions. New York City, unlike the rest of New York State, does not allow “left turn on red” in any form.

A pet peeve is, when following Pokey, in the hammer lane, after you shoot their tire out, they do no immediately get out of the lane to the shoulder.

I'm not sure who you think I am or where I'm from, but it's nowhere near here.

Someone approaches from behind, thinks I’m going too slow, attempts to pass but then realizes there’s a long line bumper to bumper in front of me. They will inevitably attempt to get back over right in front of me and immediately make a right turn. Way to jockey for position putz.

quote:Um, why not? What are you gaining by waiting much farther back than you need to be in order to make the turn?
If I'm waiting at the light, I'm not creeping out into the intersection so the dude behind me can save 1.42 seconds. Wait your turn. And if your past number 5 in line, tough shite if you miss the light.
shite, don't make it about the dude behind you - the idiots who insist on not "creeping out" often miss the light themselves. Being out in the intersection vastly decreases the amount of space you need to turn in front of oncoming traffic. Unless the lane you are turning into is backed all the way up to the intersection itself, there is simply no excuse for not "creeping out".

quote:Well, this depends on how slow the car in front is. A good driver will already be AT LEAST up to the speed limit on the interstate by the time it's time to merge. If the speed limit is 65 and they are still going only 40 when it's time to merge, I'll pass their arse every time.
When merging, the person behind in the shitty car going across the white lines to get in the same lane the person in front is heading towards.

quote:In all cases, I'm talking about leaving the appropriate amount of room once merged back over. Inclusive of that consideration, bad drivers just never get back over.
i understand for passing normal vehicles BUT if im passing an 18 wheeler im going to give them a good amount of clearance before getting back in his lane, and it pisses me off when people behind me merge right in front of the truck to get around me as soon as they have room.

quote:I'm not sure I completely understand you scenario here. This is pertaining to a right turn?
My big one is when I stop at a red light - wait for traffic to clear and turn into the correct lane - then the a-hole behind me immediately runs the run light and guns it into the left lane. All of this happens when I need to change lanes to turn at the next intersection. I seriously want to fight these people.
quote:What is "aggressive acceleration"? There's a speed limit, and you should get to it as fast as is practicable (or, at the very least, just stay right.) Again, I don't understand your scenario: if someone is accelerating away from you, how would it come to pass that you would collide with them?
In fact - anyone that drives with aggressive acceleration annoys the frick out of me. It's hard on your vehicle and it makes driving for everyone else dangerous. It's not a drag race motherfricker. Some day I'm gonna hit one of these dumb fricks doing this and my 8,000 lb truck is going to send their tiny little Corolla flipping on its roof onto the median.

quote:Sure, but that's just another layer of situational awareness. I'm talking about when the lane is wide open and still they sit way back instead of getting out in the intersection.
Eh.. I’ll take this over the idiot who pulls into the middle of the intersection to turn left prematurely, only for traffic to back up on the side street - causing him to sit blocking the middle of the intersection when his light turns red.

quote:I think it's way more common for people to be TOO conservative with this - they have no anticipation and end up staying back at the light when it was perfectly obvious there would be at least 5-10 car lengths cleared for them to drive into by the time the light cycled.
Common courtesy is to wait until you know you’ll be able to get across before entering the intersection

Agree to disagree, at least in BR. When you’ve already waited 2 light cycles, you have to fight the urge to say “frick it” and block the intersection for the 3rd.

Happens a lot at Acadian & Perkins, as well as several places on Siegen Lane.

I just quoted that from a guy explaining where it is not legal. I did not see the in your area part. I am from BR but have lived in FL for a long time.

Drivers who lackadaisically get over in to the turn lane 3/4's of the way from where it starts with no blinker

I'm a very proactive driver, not aggressive. But I pretend I'm in a jet fighter, fighting for me life. I despise super aggressive drivers these days. Examples: I pass someone on the interstate, using my blinker without even remotely coming close to cutting anyone off. I'm passing a 70mph driver, going 80+ but some douchenuts comes zooming going 100+, out of nowhere and rides my arse when I have my wife and young kids in the car. It happens pretty much every trip.
Speeders on a road with timed lights are my favorite ignoramuses though. People will ride up my arse, zip in and out of traffic, run lights, only to have me pull up slowly and do a rolling acceleration and leave them looking at their puds.
People speeding in residential areas deserve to be tarred and feathered. Going 40 in a 20 is incredibly dangerous in a neighborhood full of kids and pets. I had a little 3yo somehow wrest free of his mom and bolt right in front of me once. Had I killed that kid I probably would've killed myself. It just ain't worth it.
I hate dipshit slow drivers too, but I assumed that was all well-covered so I went the perturbed old man route.

on a divided road with a median, making a left turn and not pulling the entirety of their vehicle into the gap in the median (thus, continuing to have their arse stick out in the moving lane).
If you hang your front out into oncoming traffic and get hit it is your fault. If you are hanging into the lane you came from and someone from that lane hits you it is their fault.
Not saying I like it, it just influences where I let my car hang out when turning left if there isn't enough room for the vehicle to completely fit in the median area.

This. I travel with work (about 45,000 hwy miles/yr). This annoys me so much. I call a lot of these 60/90s….drive 60 while looking at their phone and 90 when they sit it down.

Ironically, a lot of the slow interstate drivers seem to think nothing of going 35 in a 25. That supports my main observation: they aren't careful/safe drivers - they are literally just incompetent.
