Kids out of house. I can work from anywhere. Wife (no pics) is an RN. We have been throwing around the idea of her doing travel nursing and I would go with her. Make some good money and see other parts of the country.

We’ve done a little research online but never know what’s real. Anyone with any first hand knowledge of how it all works? What’s a good contract length? What is the real money? Pros and cons? (Other than wife banging all the doctors)?

Someone I know is a travel nurse and I think her contracts are usually around 6 months or so, some longer. The money is very good.

Make sure you understand the deal. If she's contracted you'll be responsible for both portions of SE tax, which is fine, but it turns $80/hour into $45ish quickly.

Lots of places advertising benefits etc. so I’m not sure what options are 1099 or w2. Good thing to find out. Thanks.

My sister is a full time travel nurse... doesn’t take assignments unless they are $5k and up per month.

She is in children’s oncology, so the work sucks and the emotions run high, but the money is outstanding.

$60k a year seems pretty shitty for travel nursing. That's what regular nurses are making in Shreveport.

A friends wife is an ER Nurse, she took a 13 week contract in Denver, making 10K a week plus 1k week for living expenses. She took a leave of absence from her regular job, she had to work a certain amount of hours to keep her position. She’s now back at her regular gig. The contract was a Covid related govt deal so now I think it’s no longer available. This was around March 2022.

Also a friend showed me a text. There is about to be a strike somewhere in California and they were offering 10k per week to work the strike.

RN or a BSN? You may want to see what the companies hiring want.

Pros are that a lot of the income is stipends so it is “tax free.” Will be eye popping weekly take home numbers that you can get. Con is that you have to maintain a permanent residence at least 50 miles away from the work. A lot of people do it when younger and use their parents address as their primary residence. So if you still have a mortgage, pay utilities, etc then that cuts into your income.
