Whole Home Dehumidifier Recommendations

For those in the Baton Rouge/Livingston Parish areas; what company would you recommend for a whole home dehumidifier and how much did it cost for your install?
I'm looking to have one installed on my 2200 sq. ft. home. I'd like it to be independent of the HVAC unit so that it can run even when the AC is not running.

If your air conditioning system is not adequately maintaining a comfortable humidity level, your AC system was probably sized wrong and is not running long enough to properly dehumidify your house. Dehumidifiers operate on the same principle as a AC system, using refrigerated coils to condense moisture from the air.

May want to get your A/C system checked out. It should be handling this.

See, the problem is that I have a newer home in South Louisiana. The insulation game has been seriously improved over the past decade and my home is sealed up nice and tight. During the summer, it's no problem because the unit runs regularly. The problem comes in during the spring and fall months when the unit doesn't need to run nearly as much because the temperature doesn't fluctuate enough to turn the unit on as much as it does in summer. In turn, I have the correct temperature in the house but the humidity makes it uncomfortable.
According to LINK, my AC is sized correctly.
I also had a different company come and install another unit in my shop and in talking with the technician he also advised me my unit was the correct size for my home in our region.
I figured the best way to combat the lack of the unit running in spring and fall and the build up of humidity would be to compliment my AC unit with a whole home dehumidifier. I was hoping someone could point me to a reputable company in the area. Thanks.

This, and even rainy “cooler” days in summer are perfect scenarios, for a whole house dehumidifier. And it’s why they have greater use in humid areas of the USA with cooler climates as they have many days where the HVACs don’t have long run times to dehumidify a person’s house.
OP although I don’t an installer to recommend, and I’ll be following this thread to see if someone provides a recommendation, I would recommend that you try to have an Ultra-Aire ( I think they may be branded as Santa Fe dehumidifiers now) installed, as another poster in this thread has in his house. They are manufactured in the USA, Wisconsin, and have a better warranty than Honeywell whole house dehumidifiers that are made in China.
I plan to install one in my house for the exact same reasons as you when I change out my older HVAC, hopefully this winter.

I have "inspected" THOUSANDS of homes in the BR area.
NEVER have I seen a whole house, stand alone, DE humidifier..........
Your HVAC/ventilation system is wrong.

Then you don't have the right temperature if you're uncomfortable.

In north Louisiana, I just installed two of them (or had them installed by AC company more accurately), one for the downstairs and one for the upstairs. Both are Ultra Aire/Santa Fe (I believe same company). Mine are somehow connected with each unit, and when they turn on, they also turn on the AC fan to run at the same time. If it has not run in a certain amount of time (I cannot remember how long, maybe 3 hours), it automatically runs for a certain amount of time, regardless of whether the levels are met. I dont know price for the larger downstairs unit as it was included in a proposal to replace my flex duct with hard duct and add a fresh air intake that pipes directly into the dehumidifier. However, the smaller unit was for a Ultra Aire 70 pint unit and the cost with installation was 2350.00. If I had the guess the larger one was probably about 1K more. I believe I can notice a more comfortable temp inside, certainly upstairs. That unit was not running long enough before because the unit was only serving two bedrooms and a small bathroom. I ran an additional duct to a bonus room and added that dehumidifier. Now the unit runs longer of course. I dont know which made the difference - the additional coverage and longer run time, or the dehumidifier. Also, spray foam roof deck, but regular insulation in walls. In either case, so far happy with the result but is probably too early to really tell.

Just turn the temp lower so the A/C kicks on...

I bet some knuckle head was recommended a 2 ton unit but insisted on 3.5 ton bigger is better in AC he thought

I don't think your first statement is true based on this statement.

I just have a portable one that I run from time to time. Works good enough.

I looked into them last year. I was going to get an ultra aire. Quote in lake charles area was around 6000 for install. I'm still using a portable in the offseason when the a/c is not running.
