San Diego style burritos/tortillas

Long story short, I was stationed in San Diego back in 2004-2008 and a large portion of my diet became the delicious burritos from any of the local taco spots out there. I've always tried to find a place locally who could even get close but have yet to find anyone near NOLA that comes close. Anyone familiar with the tortillas they use out that way and where to find/order a similar style? My searches over the years have proved to be fruitless in that search as well.
Good news is a buddy I was in with is about to retire, so I'm about to make a trip out there in the next 6-8 months to get my fix

Traditional style out here is carne asada with homemade flour tortillas. Tacos would be corn.
Any taqueria worth their weight is going to use freshly made, not store bought.

The flour tortillas in the grocery store that are pressed but uncooked come kinda close though not nearly as good as homemade.

Didn’t know there was such a thing. Thanks
Can you buy uncooked corn tortillas too?

I was stationed there for 4 years in the 90s and my diet was probably 75% carne asada burritos. I've searched for years, but never found a comparable alternative east of there.

They fall into the Mary B's biscuits territory where they aren't as good as the tortillas my Mexican grandma neighbor made but close enough for me to not put the effort in. I always have a pack in the fridge

HEB has them. I would try walmart or a store in your more latino neighborhood. I use to have trouble in Louisiana finding the raw flour ones.

Want one of these sooo bad. With the french fries, guac, and steak inside the burrito

These are the closest thing to homemade tortillas you can find. All the taquerias around here use their tortillas but the burrito size are kinda hard to find. Have to hit up a good Mexican grocer to find them

Taco Surf is good. TBH, there's not a lot where you can go wrong around the area.
But my favorite is Mitch's when I head into town. Great food, and excellent location on the bay.

Just go to Google Maps and put in "Carne Asada Fries" and look for hole in the wall Mexican places that show up.

Most Walmart’s now have the uncooked tortillas in the cold section

Ive noticed that the taco places here in Cali use thin flour tortillas, not regular size. And they quickly cook them with oil or fat on the flattop until their almost semi translucent.

Yep, thin is best. Taste the insides more than the overpowering thick flour tortilla.
