The Haskins mention is bizarre

While this is a sad situation and Fiji will get all the blame, most of the responsibility should fall on the pledge. It won’t happen though. He can easily say no and walk away.

Right? I love how he says I'm wrong then expands it on out to everyone else always messes it up too.
He's the only one who truly knows what's going on.

This.
None of these alcohol incidents are ever just from beer. Your stomach can’t handle enough to die, you’ll just get too full or puke.

I know a guy who is a serious alcoholic. He got picked up in downtown thib and blew a .4 they kept him in the hospital for weeks. Oddly enough guy is still kicking and he’s gotta be saucing again because all he does it put incoherent dribble on Facebook.

And this is another example why 20 year olds are not "grown men". Sad.

Become Hellen Kellen 2.0 and also write a communist manifesto.

What is the difference between being victimized and being reckless? What is the difference between negligence of the other kids doing nothing when it's apparent the kid is more than just drunk verus some evil abuse of power? When is it "hazing" and when is it an adult who made a choice that resulted in harm to him or herself?

Though I have done a ton of drugs and had a lot of booze in my life, hazing with alcohol and drugs is absolutely retarded on all levels. For that matter, just hazing people is absolutely retarded. It is stunning that it still happens.

Right, for all of the people saying this was the kid’s first or second time drinking, that may be true but has nothing to do with his BAC.
A 50 year old lifelong alcoholic can blow a 0.30 and still be semi-coherent. A college freshman is likely blacked out and either struggling to keep his eyes open or is passed out.
It’s hard to fathom a 0.48 like this kid blew. That’s a level i think most lifelong alcoholics could never get to because even they would pass out.
The guy was clearly funneling vodka because the brothers told him to do it. And this is among the dumbest possible things for a fraternity to do when hazing.

this must be a current gen thing, I was in a big frat at LSU during the 70s, there were some wild times, some over the top shite, and of course, over drinking, I never saw or heard of anything like this, a kid being forced to drink, again, there was over drinking but no one had to be forced

He’s a legal adult. There is some personal responsibility here. They didn’t tie him to a chair and force it down his throat against his will.
Fraternity shouldn’t allow it, but he was still a consenting adult.

Fiji? This is my shocked face.
Fiji is the one fraternity that didn’t sign the anti-hazing declaration that every other national fraternity signed.

I wrote a lengthy paper on hazing my sophomore year in college, right after Y2K—there were gobs of stories like this that I found archived from the 80s and 90s. I remember one where they locked a kid in the trunk of a car with a bottle of Jack Daniels and drove around like maniacs until he was done with the bottle, so of course he took it down fast.

At a certain point, the guy had no idea what his name and birthday were because he was so drunk. And I would suspect it was extremely easy for the others to know when that was.
Now here is where the guy’s drinking history comes in. A lifelong alcoholic may be at that spot at 0.38 while a college freshman may be there at 0.25. Someone who has rarely been drunk before may hit that at even 0.20.
But damn near anyone on the planet would hit that at 0.4 and it is really easy to tell when a person is at that point.
The guys in the fraternity are also adults who have some level of responsibility here. At a 0.36 BAC, the guy is not going to give some speech about how he’s had enough to drink and walk back to his dorm.

He could’ve ingested the vodka very quickly and gone from coherent, meaning he knew what he was doing, to unconscious, in a short amount of time.
You’re assuming he was belligerently drunk and assuming then people forced him to funnel vodka.
