Anything decent between S’Port and Hot springs

Are there any cool towns to stay the night between Shreveport and Hot Springs? It will just be me and the bride as we are heading up to pick up the kids from camp. How is Ruston? We drove through a bunch small towns in AR and they all looked like dumps. Thanks in advance.

Why would you drive through ruston to get to hot springs? Just hop on interstate and drive through Texarkana.
If you do go that way, there isn’t much past El dorado. Drove to Hot springs a couple of weeks ago. There is a stretch of maybe 60 miles where there is one little mom and pop convenience store on a winding road.

Not really, at least not directly off the interstate

I like Ruston. Has a charming little downtown area. But its still a small town in north LA. Not sure what you are looking to do, but if you just want a place to stay and eat, Ruston would be fine.
But so would Shreveport or Texarkana.

Washington AR is a decent old town if you are into history. Has a decent museum, blacksmith shop, cafe. You can knock it out in a couple hours, which we once did while taking the "long cut" to Hot Springs.
If you need to overnight, it looks like they have a B&B, and Hope has hotels just a few miles away.
Otherwise, there is not much to see along the short path between Shreveport and Hot Springs except maybe Texarkana. We have ventured up there to hit a restaurant or brewery, and the employees are often surprised that we came from Shreveport, because that is where they go to find stuff to do.

Ok. I guess we will just head to Hot Springs then.

Degray Lake has a nice lodge, abt an hour south of HS. Maybe an option to stay?

We booked a room at the waters in Hot Springs. Where should we eat dinner?

Grateful Head Pizza and Beer Garden is right around the corner and is a cool little spot to chill and have a few beers.
Delcuas is probably the best restaurant in Hot Springs. It's also pizza, but its legit. Call ahead to reserve your dough.

What do they have that is a little nicer than pizza?

The only "nice" place we have ever went is Luna Bella but it appears to be closed on Tuesdays
Sorry :(

The Roof at The Waters is nice but pricey, even just drinks and snacks. Id check it out again though.

Not sure I understand your definition of between.

Take a look at Via Roma. Small, dark Italian place with tablecloths that's nicer than the average joint in town.
But if I were there for one night, I would be at Deluca's for a sausage pizza and a salad. (Looks like closed Tues and Wed)

We actually ate at 501 prime and the strip was fantastic. Creamed spinach was rich and good. We started with a spicy tuna roll that fresh and good as well. I was happily surprised.

you can camp out at Crater of Diamonds and dig for a diamond. It's right in between Hot Springs and Shreveport.

You could stop in Hope and visit the birthplace of William Jefferson Clinton.

I went to LA TECH in Ruston many years ago. I remember a good home cooked type food cafe in an old post office building called the Post Office Cafe......and a movie theater. I especially remember there were no bars and liquor stores because it was a dry parish. It was a dead town with nothing interesting to do. We had to take the interstate towards Monroe and cross the parish line to stock up on beer in our ice chest for the dorm room.
