So say the catcher delivers the correct sign and sets up in the correct location but the pitcher pitches the wrong oitch?pitch??

That plain and simple on the catcher???

Not catching the ball, sure but the pitcher not pitching the correct pitch isn't on the catcher. Unless he gave the wrong signal.

Which was it we will never know but it's not plain and simple asyou say

With an entire season under thei belts, the staff now knows the true strengths and weaknesses of each player. They have a full offseason to work on those things. Last offseason, everything was rushed AND thry didn't fully know the players very well. I think we will see a stronger, more disciplined team next season. If we can get a few more arms, we will make a deeper run.

why don’t we recruit and develop some arms like USM that aren’t draft threats? Seemed to work out pretty well for them and we wouldn’t be fricked after losing our best arm prospects to the draft

Because you'd be real pissed if we ran out some freshman throwing 85mph to an SEC lineup. Power schools recruit the most talented guys, not average high school arms that you know are going to need 3 years to develop.

Roster size for Spring '23 will be 35, and MAY be up to 40 if a team has seniors who missed 2020 season.

I think Gio, Beloso, Dugas, Bianco, Gervase and Merrifield all fall in that category. It basically doesn't hurt to keep five of them. It could be interesting spot for the portal as well. Maybe a small school, covid senior that wants to showcase in the SEC.

LSU already have a group of guys that can hit but can’t play defense

Is he DH or playing over Pearson, Dugas or Joubert to name a few

I would say this is where you start thinking about putting Morgan in the outfield. Beloso was very good at first base his freshman year. I wanna say a 989 fielding percentage with 338 PO. Now that’s less PO then Morgan his freshman year… but Beloso is very capable.

I’d love for him to, but where? We’re stacked at 1st and DH. And Tre’s not moving to the OF because 1, he’s just not, but 2, who you taking out?

I don’t know much about the incoming class and who may actually wind up on campus, but 2 people intrigue me in this conversation:

1) Jobert—He could certainly come back and up his stock—and I hope to God he does—but he seems like a guy that could benefit from starting his professional career. He’s got a hole in his swing that if it gets figured out, his bat plays in the bigs. He’d sacrifice some up front signing bonus money by leaving now, but he could move up faster in an organization if he’s not worried about going to class every day. ***I REALLY want him back. Crews needs protection next year that he could offer***

2) Leto—he looked much, much better than the opportunities he got. Anybody know what’s up with that? Got to be something I’m missing.

The window for Tre to play OF in college has closed. Not only is he nursing a knee injury (that could linger), but you're going to have Crews, Pearson, Stevenson, and at least 1 of Kling and Mic Paul next year...and that's not mentioning Dugas possibly returning, or any other possible run from a transfer or other freshman.

If Beloso is even a thought at 1B, it's because Morgan can't play at all.

I think Doughty may come back. His slump at the end of the year, plus the errors, hurt his stock a bit. I could see him sliding back over to 3rd if he comes back.

Pearson got a little better, but he’s never gonna be a great corner OF. And his body type is so much like a 2B, why is he not an option there? I know he played middle infield as a kid, but moved to OF sometime in high school, I guess. You know why? Replace Doughty with him and that opens up another corner OF spot that could really help.

I think the summers should be used to push guys up the defensive spectrum as much as possible and see if they can handle it. Pearson should try 2nd this summer, but the issue is that he’s going to the Cape and if it’s not where scouts want to see him, it’s not going to happen.

Leto has a ton of upside…would have played almost any other year with a lesser lineup. Projects as a 1B or corner outfield which LSU has depth at but will get his chances as long as he sticks around.

He won’t make as much money negotiating a year older as a senior sign in 2023. A lot of this is completely new with Covid and extra years so there’s nothing to go off of.

Pearson played some 2B last summer and in fall/spring scrimmages. I think you'll see that again.

I’d Have to check again but I’m not sure he does. 2 years at Delgado, 2 at Samford, LSU for the COVID year.

He was a freshman there in 2018. The only stats I could find were from 2019 though so that may be why they only listed the one year on lsu’s site. But he was listed as a sophomore in 2019 so he presumably didn’t redshirt in 2018.
