I participated in the National Spelling Bee 3 times back in the 1990's. The Asian and Indian kids were all home schooled and studied all day. It was surreal watching them when they got eliminated. Their parents were screaming at them like they'd done something wrong.

Indians and Asians both have a strong emphasis on education, high achievement and success. It does seem like they’ve negotiated some sort of underground arrangement though and I just imagine them deciding “OK East Asians, you guys get the math competitions. South Asians, y’all are taking all the spelling bees. Science fairs remain neutral ground, may the best Asian win!”

Naa, my nephew ‘white kid’ is a math pioneer and works for a British company from his basement office at home.
