The Ump kept calling everything 6” off of the plate a strike. Does it really matter the pitch?

I dont know if it what talked about during the game. But the umpires strike zone was huge against Kentucky. Im sorry but if a pitcher with decent stuff can consistently hit a spot outside of the strike zone there is not much you can do as a hitter.

Because of the weather delays, it was obvious that the strike zone had greatly expanded to speed up the game. The umpires were pretty consistent and the Kentucky adapted to it hitting and pitching much better than we did

Slider off the plate. If the umpire is calling it, he has to swing.

I do notice that Crews sets up more in the middle of the batter's box compared to other guys on the team who are shifted all the way inside.

They pitch him out there because he's too far from the plate.

Thanks for the answers. It just seemed like the same pitch.I didn't realize it was being called a strike but was a ball.

I wonder if the umpires made any bets on the games they are calling.

Reminded me of the Oregon State game a few years ago. I think Gilbert was pitching for us. They just could not adjust to the ump’s zone which happened to include about 4-5” off the plate.

Crews sets up in the batters box because he can cover the inside and outside strike zone. If he swings at a slider on outside he probably will not hit it. If it is a fast ball he can cover. If the umpire calls off the plate a strike the pitcher should take advantage of the zone and he did.

This. Remember 2017 against Oregon State in Omaha? Left handed heavy lineup and the ump was giving Gilbert all the way to the RH box and he hit that spot all game. OSU bitched the entire time and all our fans were saying “you have to adjust to his zone. He’s been calling it all game.” Amazing how fanbases love it when it benefits them and hate it when it goes against them.

If the umpire is calling a strike 6-8" off the plate then you have to swing or just be caught looking, I would rather swing. You have to make adjustments to how the ump is calling, crowd the plate and go the other way.

First time on TigerDroppings, I see…

The way you get your questions answered on TigerDroppings is to say, “Crews kept swinging at knuckle curves against Kentucky.” Then some mean spirited person will say, “It was a fastball he kept swinging at, dumbass.”

You have to let the poster channel their inner rat bastard so that you can get your answer.

Slider low and away. He has a difficult time seeing it, but in his defense most players do.

You're getting down voted. But don't fear, you are right.
If he's set up backed off plate, ANY type of outside corner action is effective.
Multiple of 10 if the ump is giving space out there.
