I just heard the local police give an interview and the story about the shooter encountering an armed guard was false. In fact, the door wasn’t even locked.

This looks like a massive failure of school security. No one should be able to just walk into the back entry of a school and into any classroom.

This is why we need univeral background checks, psychiatric exams, special permits for "assault rifles", magazine limits, ammunition taxes, and no more AR15s. Good grief.

Found the article below from ABC news that says he did not engage the school officer but did engage with two cops. That whole article is pretty interesting.

"As for the armed school officer, he was driving nearby but was not on campus when Ramos crashed his truck, according to a law enforcement official who was not authorized to discuss the case and spoke of condition of anonymity. Investigators have concluded that school officer was not positioned between the school and Ramos, leaving him unable to confront the shooter before he entered the building, the law enforcement official said.

As Ramos entered the school, two Uvalde police officers exchanged fire with him, and were wounded, according to Olivarez. Ramos began killing his victims in a classroom."

We need common sense locked door legislation.

Good grief. We lost these children and teachers for nothing

And the armed police stood outside to stop parents instead of the shooter.

Up here all doors are locked. You have to buzz in they ask you why you are there look you over on video before they hit the button to allow you access to the building.

Why is it too difficult to restrict entry in schools to one door only, have a security guard in place, and to install metal detectors as in public offices across the land? Isn't there a place in the "infrastructure" bill to provide precious funding for retrofitting schools as such?

20 Years ago, my daughter's school had locked doors and a metal detector. You could not just walk into the school.

Why did he "crash" his truck? Were Cops chasing him or not? Seems weird for the dude to crash like that if he was just driving up to the school with a plan.
