Pediatric Nurse Practitioner student

I am a PNP student beginning clinical this spring. On the look for a preceptor, as this can be a lengthy process. Does anyone know of a PNP, or pediatrician who would be willing to let me follow them, beginning Spring 2023?

I guarantee you a PNP makes more than the fricking trolls that have commented so far

Pediatric NP's are very rare, few schools offer this specialty to my knowledge.
OP, Try emailing your work administration and see if they can help with placement. you work at Children's, right?
Alternatively use one of those paid services. I would only suggest this because your specialty is rare and I know zero Pediatricians who have the time for a student.
And try urgent cares that take kids. I think those are acceptable settings for you to learn as well.
Good luck.

Interesting concept. So you are telling me in order to be granted independent practice rights you are tasked with finding some random in the community to teach you? There is not some sort of governing body that oversees and standardizes who is teaching you folks?

I believe the profession is still in its infancy, isn't it? It took the flexner report for physicians to get their shite together.

What kind of NP program are you in where they don't find you a preceptor?

It’s a total joke the lack of exposure/clinical experience some nurse practitioners get. I’ve worked with some who were going join a surgical field and had never removed staples or sutures.

Almost all np programs require you to find your own preceptor

So just a bunch of randoms checking off boxes for graduation and eventual credentialing? Seems safe.

My daughter is an NP and she had to find all her preceptors. It’s a lot of work but you started far enough in advance
PS … each preceptor is a MD in the field you are studying each semester

Covid protocols have made this really difficult

Ask fellow classmates who they are precepting with. That could either give you a lead or help you find someone. You might have to drive a little. I know some people that had to drive 40 minutes to find someone, but that’s something you have to decide on your own if it’s worth it for you or not.
