If you’ll be doing the causeway daily you may want to look in Mandeville. Not too far west either, like not too far past Franco’s, because traffic on 22 west sucks.

Pros - basically no petty crime, it's clean, there's a lot of stuff to do both free and otherwise.
Cons - traffic. all the time, traffic. if you're crossing the causeway for work, you are forfeiting 2-3 hours of your life every day just sitting in a car. public schools aren't as good as you'd think.
On that traffic note, one of the things the nola metro area takes for granted is the ability to get pretty much anywhere in less than an hour and usually in less than 30 minutes. No other mid-major city in the country offers that. If you're ok with giving that up just to live in Covington, why not look at actually good places to live that aren't in Louisiana?

Pros: It's not New Orleans.
Cons: It's not New Orleans.

If you have to cross the Causeway for work consider Mandeville or parts of Covington below I-12. It will save you up to 30 minutes a day. US 190, especially around I-12 and Northpark, has serious traffic issues around rush hour that are not present during the remainder of the day. I also would not live in Madisonville as the traffic back up on highway 22 is real. Outside of rush hour there is hardly any traffic and it is easy to get places.
The public schools here are excellent.
If you want a new house you may have to look a bit longer. However, there are plenty of nice older houses on the market.
The people here are great. You'll love it. If you have any specific questions post them.

no crime
Few weeks ago getting home from a family outing my young son left my vehicle door wide arse open and somehow no one noticed until the next morning. The only consequence was getting rid of a colony of mosquitos that had moved in overnight.

I really know very little about the NorthShore
I work in Covington. It's nice. The stoplights on 190 suck hard. I'd move here in a heartbeat if the wife was on board.
The thing that strikes me as odd is that it feels like 3 different towns.
1.190 stretch
2.Downtown
3.Pinnacle/Hwy 21

If you come bringing liberal politics, I’m going to be your con.
The northshore is full for liberals. Go to California.

The average ACT score at mandeville high is a 23.

At Catholic high, a place which chooses its students, my graduating class had an average score of 27
So, like I said, an average score of 23 when you aren’t hand picking your students seems indicative of a good learning environment
ETA: and Mandeville had 438 students take it. That’s a large amount
ETA2: since 2013, Louisiana public school students are required to take the ACT. So a 23 is absolutely an impressive average

New guy, eh?
Opening a second span on the Causeway was the start but Beau Chene’s opening was the end of an era on the north shore. It has remained a great place to live but it’s different. Everything changes.

This. If you have to cross the causeway daily I would definitely live south of I-12 and east of the causeway.

So a 23 is a very impressive score for a public school

it looks like they made it required the year after i graduated
regardless, i guess we'll have to agree to disagree on 23 being "very impressive"
