FIFA Announcement-ESPN
Winners:
Boston
New York
Philadelphia
Atlanta
Miami
Kansas City
Dallas
Houston
Seattle
San Francisco
Los Angeles
My predictions:
New York
Los Angeles
Atlanta
DFW
Baltimore/DC
Boston
Denver
SanFran/Bay Area
Seattle
Miami
And reasons for non-selects:
Cincy-too remote from other sites
Houston-too close to Dallas, too hot
Kansas City-inaccessible stadium
Nashville-would be #11, soccer still growing
Orlando-too close to Miami
Philly—too close to NY & Baltimore

Boston would be sick although Foxborough is kind of a bitch to get to

Counterpoint for Houston over Dallas is that Houston is closer to Mexico, so it could act as a pseudo 4th Mexico host site.
But yeah, only one of Houston/Dallas will be taken.

I'm like 99.99998% sure Cincy gets a bid, especially with Chicago not in the mix.

Really hoping Nashville gets a spot. I’m not to familiar with the setup — how many games would the US be guaranteed for the group stages? Is it three? And from the group stage you move into the knockout rounds?

Personally I hope Cincy gets in, as that would make three drivable sites, but I think they will count Toronto as “Midwest.”

Overall looks about right
quote:Reliant’s hardly a dump but you can’t not have Jerryworld host games. Mexico isn’t playing in the US so I don’t know why they would need a 4th site.

Only 2 games for the group stage?

16 groups of three, so only two group games. Top two advance, so knockout round starts with 32 instead of 16. Basically, every site would get a knockout game.

So dumb for all the non host teams to go through all that qualifying for only two World Cup games.

LA bid with both SoFi and the Rose Bowl. Hoping it’s the former that gets chosen, though I understand the allure of returning to the site of the ‘94 final.

I’d rather have historic, grass, outdoor stadiums than slick new indoor stadiums with temporary grass laid over the turf. ‘94 in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas was epic!

I missed DC & Denver. Guess “soccer culture” trumped a lot of other factors, with Philly and KC beating those two out. You could also say they chose Houston over Edmonton for similar reasons.
