Wife and I want to do 5-6 day trip to an all inclusive with an over water bungalow. She wants Maldives but I want the best value. Any advice is appreciated

Best Value is probably Moorea/Tahiti, which is near Bora Bora. There is a bunch of value places here although not quite as nice as Bora. Also the Flights here are much more manageable than the Maldives. I think it is 8-9 hr flight from LAX.
We looked into Sandals Overwater Bungalows in Jamaica/Bahamas and they are stupid Expensive.

For what they're charging for any overwater bungalow in Mexico/Jamaica/Caribbean I'd rather go to Tahiti
Maldives seems very difficult to get to

31 hours door to door to get from my house in Houston to my bungalow in Maldives. That was no delays and not adjusting for time change…longer getting back.
Just a brutal journey. It was worth it. That being said, no way I’d ever do it again.

Ya, I don't think I'd ever want to go to Maldives just for that. I've been to India and SE Asia and that seems like a better scenario for getting there, plus you'll actually experience a culture.
Though there is no escaping the brutal trek of Maldives if it is at front or back of your itinerary. Relaxing for 4 days just to do 30 hours in a tube seems to take some of the benefits away. So maybe do it at front of trip on that scenario.

My wife and I found one in Aruba that is very nice but wasn’t too expensive.

IC Thallasso in Bora Bora is great. I personally would splurge for the upcharge of staying on the outside of the atoll vs the inside. These trips are mostly about the scenery, so you want to splurge on the room as much as you can.
In Bora Bora, I would highly recommend the snorkling with sharks and renting a pontoon boat for a day. The boat rental was one of the coolest things I've done. We stayed out for about 8 hours, took a cooler for lunch, and snorkled on our own.
Travel there is tough. Total travel time was about 20 hours, but it was worth it, and I will likely go back again at some point.

Yeah, give me the Philippines and Thailand any day over the Maldives.

el dorado maroma outside of cancun has the bungalows. Probably about 12-15000 for a week

Look into Belize. There are a few small islands that have what you’re after. Not a great travel day depending on where you’re coming from but no where near Maldives.

That was the plan. Then Covid shite on my plan and closed Singapore and France essentially.

Ya, when there was like 5 countries you could go to I wouldn't have scoffed at the Maldives that's for sure. I took whatever was available.

Moorea's overwater was much better than BB's, at least the Black Pearl's location. We were over a reef at Moorea. Jump in and snorkel right there.
On BB, there was just sand and the water wasn't even very deep. Boring. We did a beachfront bungalow there instead. Was nice to change it up a little.
