Yep. The result is going to be the decrease in fan interest. Fans will rapidly lose interest when players are coming and going in a revolving door which is the Portal.

You have a booster who is paying a kid who has never played a game in college. What value is he to the Booster’s business?
That doesn't mean that they've done nothing for the money. These are elite athletes that bust they're arse day in and day out to do something that 90% of the population can't do.
Plus, that's how sports contracts work. Athletes get paid before performing for their current team.
Bums on the side take money that they've done nothing for. These guys are coveted athletes that train year round to do what they do which puts their services in high demand.

Yes it does. The problem with people like you is that you have never run a business. (You will now say you have). These players will generate no money for these business owners or Return On Investment (ROI). They have to either be an employee (W2) or an Independent Contractor (1099) but either way they come out of business funds. Someone stated in this thread that Fortune 500 Companies will take over NIL but I doubt that because the stockholders will probably frown on money going to players. NIL is so new that it is going to take a couple of years for it to show its true colors.

fine if you dont want a cap but be prepared for the faggies to own college football.

No I haven't and no I won't.

You don't think that Gordon McKernan will get more business from LSU fans because he stepped up and paid LSU players or that the Ford dealership that has a deal with Brennan will get more business because of it?
Besides, you said that the players have done nothing for the money that they receive. The fact is just putting in the work to be where they are in life is doing a lot to get the money that they do.

Gordon McKernan’s specialty is handling accidents involving 18 Wheelers so No I do not think paying these players will generate much at all for his Firm. You believe what you choose.

Agree. Realistically, its an expense with little to nothing in return.
I question if the expense is tax deductible. It has to be an "ordinary and necessary" business expense to be deductible.

I would guess that most if not all of these
players are paid as 1099 Independent Contractors so they would be responsible for their taxes and expenses. I know I damn sure wouldn’t want a W2 employee (college football player) driving a vehicle in my Company’s name. That could be a disaster.

The NCAA is doomed
NIL will lead to the end of amateur sports in college if left unchecked
As a fan, I am already losing interest in college sports in general due to what I view as unchecked corruption running rampant in the transfer portal and NIL
Kids are being improperly contacted on every front and the NCAA is complicit

The thing is, MCKernan, our go to guy, is small fry compared to people in Texas. He isn’t even a speck on the radar.
The other sad fact is that our go to guy is a plaintiff attorney. How does he get HIs money? By taking it from industry. Industry hates guys like MCKernan.
And Texas has much bigger plaintiff attorneys too. One of the biggest tamu supporters is a prolific plaintiff attorney. But they have a much wider corporate net to pull from.
We have MCKernan and….. canes?

NIL in its basic form would be ok. However its' not being administered that way.
A guy making money off appearances and jersey sales is one thing. Bidding on high school recruits is going to make it an unsustainable arms race.
None of this has to do with the players. It’s the adults giving them the money that is the issue.
I’m not saying you are but there are a ton of people that are angry at the kids and not the adults. The kids are just taking what they are offered and are smart enough to use the adults against each other to get more. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion.

Did you see what Boutte did this year?
Yes, some of it is on the players. Key players will renegotiate every year or walk.
You can't build programs around that and it destroys locker rooms.
Players jumping ship via free agency is 100% on the players. You can't separate that from NIL today.
Posted on 5/3/22 at 7:35 am to Byrdybyrd05
This shite is really getting out of hand. I don't think their needs to be a cap. But there needs to be a better way to regulate it so you cannot entice players to transfer with these NIL deals.

How is that not tampering? Dude wasn't even in the portal and gets a call for nil deals on behalf of other schools. Thats like breaking the only rule they have about this.
This is like trying to get another man's wife to cheat. To me, it's worse than paying kids pre-NIL.
Posted on 5/3/22 at 7:56 am to Byrdybyrd05
What I don’t understand is why LSU is not making a bigger deal out of this.
This is clear tampering before entering the portal. This is the kind of bullshite that cfb can’t have but there’s no way of stopping it

Have you ever heard of Turner, Performance, Brown and Root of La (Jim Bernhard), or MMR? These are Large companies with thousands of employees. All are headquartered in Baton Rouge and all are owned and run by LSU Graduates.
All are heavily involved with TAF and LSU. Many of you do not know the money behind LSU but I promise you Canes and Gordon are not the big dogs. Lol.

there has got to be a tampering rule with boosters.

Do we think these boosters will just divert the money they used to blow on improvements to facilities over to paying athletes? Both are expenses with no return in my eyes.
The players were getting paid before hand now its just not underground any longer.

I question how sustainable this NIL stuff is.
Will work itself out in a few years.
Texas will still suck after all the money they've poured in and eventually teams will be less and less inclined to pay big money for anything other than generational talent. Plain and simple.
Just needs a few crash and burns first
