I personally liked the comment stating "why should a trucker who never went to college pay off the loans of a white collar Havard educated lawyer who makes 10 times more than he does" Truer words were never spoken. This is 100% wrong. You took out a loan. Nobody forced you..Pay the damn thing yourself.

first of all, let's stop acting like middle class would be paying it off.

She said she saw what the loan would entail and she chose not to take one.

I did the same thing. Why should I pay for others who DNGAS?

Kat has been quite vocal about not getting involved in Ukraine.

Yep. She had been admitted to Columbia. She thought hard about the loans she would have to take out and made the decision not to go to Columbia.

BAM! They took the money. They should give it back.

That's true. It's even worse. It will be the middle class' children saddled with repaying the deficit spending needed for this.

I can't imagine saddling my kid with debt they got zero benefit from, while those that took the money simply walk away. Cruel.

The middle class pays the majority of income taxes and is more affected by inflation, so who would be paying for it then? They either pay for it through taxes or they "pay for it" through inflation.

Yep that’s exactly what I keep saying about any of this deficit spending no matter who is in office. Biden, Trump, Obama, whoever. It just puts it on the credit card for our kids to pay off which is shite. My daughter didn’t agree to pay for all this bs. She didn’t agree to pay for people to take off work for a year because of frickin Covid. Or reparations. Or student loans. Or anything

Over 50% of the people in this Country pay zero taxes and skim off the rest of us. Many of those have worthless gender studies and underwater basket weaving degrees and huge loans... Who the hell do you think will be paying this shite off besides the middle class and their middle class children?

Why should this same trucker pay off the student loans of somebody who spent $100k on some Offended Studies Degree where the degree recipient was taught to hate the trucker?

I agree and simply another Pandora's Box being opened which will inevitably lead to the next - just don't know which one but there will be a next.

What is the point in the forgiveness of the loans other than cementing an already democrat leaning student loan base. Why exactly do these loans need to be forgiven? The person that signed up for the loan can’t exactly and successfully deny that they didn’t know what they were getting into.

I continue to repeat = "the ONLY institution that should be in the business of making student loans are the universities themselves."

IF they think what they are offering is worth the cost they will charge, then loan him the $$.

And it is then up to them to make sure he is diligent enough to take the right course load, is making grades commensurate with their investment in him, provide the proper level of competence to instruct him, and above all else, is pursuing a degree that has some value.

Otherwise you are just financing party animals having fun, if there is no capacity for the recipient to ever be able to pay it off with the 'education' you are charging them for.

To have the 'truck driver' pitch in to pay off some party animal's debt for spending $200,000 for 6 years of partying and coming away with a sheet of paper saying 'I majored in East African women's studies' makes zero sense. Especially when that truck driver is working 80 hour weeks to pay his own children's community college tuition.

If your worthless liberal arts degree doesn’t generate enough market value to cover the tuition investment, than either you made a terrible career choice, are an unhireable dreg of humanity, or got screwed by the university.

None of those scenarios make this my problem. This is only the gateway toward a swipe at public college. Same as the ACA was with health care.
